What lies ahead

this poem is what I felt after realizing that life was not just a box of chocolates

Never could I have perceived

what ripped me out of my covers

that rainy night

The thought of it simply had me boggled

As I stare at the darkness that so clearly overwhelmed

heading down this journey more alone than I ever have before

I dread knowing what I always have thought was just fantasy

not only has the darkness completely surrounded me

but also the cruel horrifying dream of reality

feeling my senses run wild as I braced for the worst

I can’t help but to think of why this happens now

not knowing a thing of what is to come

I try to withstand the sensation that is attempting to devour my soul

without a sense of where I was or where I was going

The crippling fear turned me inside out

preparing me for what lay ahead on this dreary night
