A Rose GlistensA Poem by Jennifer QueenPassage of a yearA rose glistens with the morning dew A child awakens to the smells of autumn A kitchen filled with the scents Of fresh spices from the garden
A crow is heard upon the wind The forest across the glad Is filled with the sounds of the hounds on the hunt
Old man winter's time of awakening draws near The last of the harvest has been stowed away An autumn babe blessed by the fairies of old Suckles at the breast of a women fresh to the world
Winter arrives with the paws of the winter wolves The rose once bright and red Is now blued by the first breath of winter
The world now sleeps Under a blanket of snow and ice That lies in the wake of the winter wolves
All things change with the passage of time The seasons are not exempt from this ancient decree
The winter wolves are chased away by the cats of spring Their flaming claws break away the shroud Of the winter wolves passing
The rose breaks free from its icy cage The babe of autumn's blessing Is now the yearling of spring
The phoenix rises new to the sky Farmers to the field begin the planting
Lovers Flutter through the sky The cats of spring lie down in fields of jasmine Letting their souls desire Bring forth the new generation
The hawks of summer burst forth From the cats of spring
Mighty storms form In the wake of the hawks of summer The torrents of wind and rain Replenishes the thirsty land
The night of summer Are filled with the sounds of life Young ones come forth To play in the solace of the cool night air
But the night too follows the ancient decree It breaks to the mornings touch But not before weeping at its loss
