Summer FunA Poem by lynneMy summer so far...
I'm sitting on the edge of my own world, hoping to be noticed. I'm just sitting here pretending to be oblivious to my surroundings. But in reality, I can see everything. I see the people walking by, I notice all of them. There is no getting past my skeptical gaze. I watch them with the eyes in the back of my head, wondering what they think of me.
As the sun sinks low over the hills, I notice how the water gleams in shades of purple and red. There is no breeze to blow in my hair, but I wish there was. The sound of quiet chatter all around, is deafening. The scream of the cicadas, scares me. It's like they need my help, but there is no way for me to help them.
Fire lights up the sky, in red, and blue, and white. The world is at peace, yet full of excitement. I hold a flaming stick out in front of me. It's sparks fly in all directions. My friends are all around me, they gawk at it and smile at me. I pray this night will never end.
The fireworks are over. Now it's time to go home. We walk together, all of us holding hands and walking slowly, in hopes that we will never reach the car. We talk about our lives, how much we miss our other friends at school. How we look forward to the rest of the long summer. The long, yet short summer.
