Till death...Does it really have to be that way?

 

 

If we died,

and left this world,

honey,

would you still stay?

Would you still

hold my hand,

every day?

Does death mean that,

we aren't together?

Does it mean,

we're no longer now or never?

Darling,

would you leave me,

behind?

When death has taken over,

will you stay?

Did you mean it

when you promised me,

that you and me would always be,

baby, please don't tell me

that it was a lie.

Heaven just wouldn't be heaven,

without you by my side.

How I wish that you and me could be,

from now until eternity,

Oh, I wish that you would always,

be with me.

But I guess that everybody dies,

even though it's so unfair,

let's stay together,

for as long as we can.

Darling, I can promise you,

that as long as I'm here,

I'll stand by you.

not just on this earth, but in heaven too.

I love you.

NB: there aren't any spelling errors to ignore.

I like how this poem is a different take on the death of lovers - whether it be at the same time or if the deaths happen at different points. I think it's a neat way to look at the vow as well, and to ask questions about what would actually happen in an afterlife/eternity.

I had to re-read it a few times, because when I first read it, I somehow took it as one person dying and the beloved wondering all of these things. But reading it a second, third and fourth time really made it clear what's being asked, and it's rather beautiful. :]
