Chapter Two: ConstanceA Chapter by lynneConstance's first chapter.
The person I always loved most was my mother. She was the best mother anyone could ask for. When my father died, she was constantly comforting me and helping me through the hard times. At the end of a long day at school, she was always at home waiting for me with a smile on her face. Even when I was in the worst mood possible, I could never take out my frustrations on my mother. To me, she was an angel. The perfect human being. She was a gift to me from God, and she meant absolutely everything to me.
When I entered high school, I was surprised at how mature everyone was. It was way different than middle school, where everyone was rude, immature, and mean. Everyone seemed so grown up. I felt like a child in a room full of adults. Homeroom was the first class of the day. I always tried to get to school early, so that I would have more time in the library before it started. I have never been happy with just going there and picking out books. Instead, I like to pick out books, and read them in one sitting. Most of my peers knew me as the quiet girl who never spoke. I wouldn't have minded so much, if they didn't point it out every chance they got.
On the first day of 10'th grade, one year after I started high school, I met him. It was right after homeroom started, and the teacher called me up to the board. "Would you please write down the date and my name for me on the board? I need to finish up some paper work", he said. So I followed his orders. I was about to finish writing his name, when I heard him speak for the very first time. "Excuse me?", he said, in a nice, calm voice. " Can you tell me if I am in the right homeroom or not? I'm new to this school, and I didn't see a number on the door". The teacher looked up, and I turned my head to see a tall boy with dark brown hair and blue eyes. His skin was pale, and he looked as if he were about to cry. "Oh, I totally forgot about the transfer student", the teacher yelped, "I'm so sorry about that. They took that number off months ago." The teacher checked the boy's schedule, and I prayed that he was in the right classroom. That innocent look he had on his face made me feel so at ease. "Well....lets see.... oh! why yes, you are in the right class", she teacher announced. "Go ahead to the front of the room and introduce yourself to everyone." By now, I was already in my seat, watching him with facination. The boy stumbled to the front of the room, looking quite frightened when he saw all the eyes staring at him. I wanted to comfort him. "Well, my name is Jack Sanders. I just moved here this summer. I used to go to North High, which is just a few hours away from here", he said, and then paused as if thinking of something to say next. "I hope I can get to know all of you, and have a great school year with you."
All throughout homeroom, I was very aware of him being behind me. I could practically feel him staring at the back of my head. I desperately wanted to turn around and introduce myself, but I had to wait until class was over. That face of his was extrordinary. But not just his face, his facial expressions were what really got to me. He looked so thoughtful, so sincere, so full of emotion. Unlike every other guy at school, he obviously had character.
Finally, class was over, and right when I was about to turn around, some stupid blonde came over and started talking to him. "Hey, my name's Tammy! So how do you like this school so far?", she said in the stupidest way possible. "Well, I sort of just started, so I don't know yet", Jack replied, not even bothering to look up at her. I smiled deviously as the girl walked away. Then, I spun around. I thought I was ready. But I had suddenly forgotten how to speak for some reason. I just stared at him and he stared back. Finally, I found the right words. "Hi. My name's Constance", I said, as I felt my face grow red with embarrassment. But he surprisingly smiled at me. It was a warm, welcoming smile that I had only ever seen from my mother. "Hi. I'm Jack. But you already know that", he said, in a sweet, kind voice. Above his smile, on his cheeks there was the slightest hint of pink, as if he were blushing as well. "Well, it's nice to meet you", I said, cheerfully. "It's nice meeting you too", he replied, gazing at me with those bright, blue eyes of his. I felt my heart skip a beat as he did so, thinking of something to say, but not able to find the right words. And for the first time in my life, I fell in love.
