Midnight Musings, Pt. 1A Poem by Audrey PetersWhat do you do when the one you want won't pay you no nevermind? And I wait. A waiting for what, or for want, or for a casual whatever, wading into wherever it is what I want is waiting:
What I want is waiting here--here, in this grimy bar, waiting with women--other women-- other than me, I mean.
I wave a little, wink, maybe, but only in my head, and wait. I want a wink back, a real one, from you to me:
A real one from you to me would mean a consistency, a certainty, almost certainly, a see-and-know-you'll-be-seen.
You maybe look. You maybe see, see me see you, even, who knows, really, anyway, because my eyes aren't looking:
Because my eyes aren't looking my heart skips no beats. Does he want? Wish? Whatever? And I wait, and dream. © 2008 Audrey PetersAuthor's Note
