The Choosen One, Chapter 3A Chapter by Kaitieattack on the buildingMy mouth hangs open so far, im afraid itll touch the floor. The guy seems amused by my astonishment, like he expected me to. Somehow that justs makes me angry. This guy is crazy, telling me im a 'werewolf'. They dont exist. Never have, never will and never did.
i wait a moment for the 'i gotcha!', but it never comes.i warily look over my shoulder at the FBI guy. Not a single twitch. My eyes widen as i realise that theyre not joking. theyre definitly real werewolves . . . but am i?
i manages a weak laugh, "Ha ha, very funny. Now why am i here again?"
"I already told you," the boy says, shaking his head in exasperation, "Your a human that can shift into a wolf. We perfer to call ourselves shifters. Sounds less silly."
"Your serious?" i say, looking him steadily in the eyes, "You think im gonna fall for this crap? Yeah, well, you thought wrong. Your all crazy and ill have you sued for abductment once i get out of here."
He laughs, "Nice try, but we can't have pups running about, recking havoc about the streets and killing humans. We've kept our existence a myth for so long and we're not gonna lose all that just 'cause a stuborn girl will not except the truth. So buck up and accept reality."
I laugh again. "You keep beleiving that. Just be a good puppy and sit here while i call the medics for a cat scan," i say, pulling out my cell phone.
"You don't understand! You can't just-"
The boy was cut off by a long, whinning howl. He froze and shot a glance at the man-in-black guy. I froze. The last time i heard a howl, i had a very big creature bite me, and it still hurts.
"Uh, was that by any chance one of your dogs?" i whisper nervously.
The boy, wide-eyed, slowly shakes his head and, looking at the FBI guy, says "Marcus, gather the pack. We have company."
"Yes, Aaron," the guy, Marcus, says and loops off.
More howls join the first and the ground starts to rumble with the pressure of an oncoming crowd. A very large crowd. With lots of legs. And they seem to be heading our way. Perfect, i always love a good slaughter.
Marcus returns with five other kids in their teens with bed-head hair and sleepy eyes. Good. The howls sounded right ouside the house and i certaintly didnt fancy being riped apart.
"Pack!" Aaron shouted, "We have company."
Without waiting for their reactions, Aaron motioned for his pack to follow him as he headed out the door. I inch closer to the table, trying to lose myself in the rucus, but i feel a hand shove me forward and look back to see Marcus ushering me out the door. So much for that brilliant plan. I sigh and follow the 'pack' out the double doors.
Waiting for us on the other side are around eight massive, sleek-pelted wolves. The one in the middle, a big grey one, bounded forward and his form seemed to shimmer before changing into a tall, bulky man in denim and a grey tee. Surprisingly, im not surprised. The man walks up to Aaron and grins, showing crooked yellow teeth.
"Hello Aaron. How are your mutts?"
Aaron steadily meets his gaze and says, "Fine. What is your will?"
The man scans the crowd and his gaze rests on me, making the hair on the back of my neck stick straight up and my breath quicken to short pants.
He points a thick finger at me and says, "I want the girl."
My heart beats frantically in my chest, my panic turns to anger and i stare evenly in his eyes, my gaze unwavering. I know its probably stupid to pose a challenge like that, but i really don't care right now. Ive been biten, kidnapped and questioned and im not up to being taken again by total strangers.
"No," Aaron says, surprising me, "We changed her, so she stays with us."
He grins again, "I was really hoping you'd say that."
Suddenly the man leaps, changing into wolfie form as he does so, at Aaron. Aaron swiftly dodges to the side and the whole lawn erupts in chaos. The teens on my side change to wolves and charge at the others. I just stand there, frozen in fear as the wolves fight, some charging at me before getting bowled aside by another wolf. i feet teeth clamp on my waist and i scream as im thrown sideways, dangling from a black wolf's jaws. i scream again as the wolf, making sure not to hurt me or my throbbing shoulder in the process, loops into the house and jumping up the spiral stairs, five at a time.
The wolf reaches the hallway and crosses the hallway in two bounds. He delicatly drops me and i instantly swing my good arm and punch him in the jaw. The black canine flinches away and shimmers once before changed into a hurt-looking Aaron, rubbing his cheek.
"Oops," i say.
"No, it was a good hit," he says, "Just save that for the other wolves."
He lifts up and pulls down a roof-door that i hadnt noticed and it lets down a ladder. Aaron gestuers for me to go first and i hastely climb up the ladder into a dusty attic room. Boxes are pilled everwhere and are covered in a thin film of dust. In the center of the room is a huge pool of silver-blue water, shimmering as the light from the moon flooding in from a big hole in the roof hits its surface.
"Who are they?" i ask, "and why do they want with me?"
Aaron doesn't meet my eyes and doesn't reply. i'm about to question him further when a voice speaks from the shadows.
"Yes Aaron. Tell her."
My head whips around and the guy who spoke with Aaron steps out of the shadows, grinning like he just won the lottery. I back up and bump into the attic walls. We're trapped and theres no wolves to help us out of here this time.
