Who We Are

Who We Are

A Poem by Funmi Elizabeth Olaiya

They tormented us

We were depressed

We were oppressed

We were trampled upon

We were slaves

We looked up to them

We were nonentities

We revolted

We took action

We struggled

We ran towards them

They were scared of us

They took to their heels

They bowed at our feet

We conquered them

We chased them away

We took over all

We started to rule

The team- Good People

The feared us

They served us

We did not quit

We did not fail

We did not stop

Warriors!

This is who we are.

You and I.

hey, Funmi Elizabeth Olqiyq, this poem has an organic heart beat and suspended my disbelief, for the most part, it pulled me in one direction, capturing my attention, but left me wanting at the end... the last line seems out of place, at least for me....you had me for almost an entire poem, I actually like this, it is vibrant and full of passion, but the last line I am not a fan of....cheers
