Mask

Mask

A Poem by Funmi Elizabeth Olaiya

Covered facial-expressions

At this junction

I'll try to be your best friend

Then, back stab you to the end

It's not only about what is outside

It flourishes from the inside

Love has to be unconditional

No matter what&who you are

Some are not what they seem

But they know how to fit

Misleading you to it

I call it fake

'cos it's give and take

We could all be together in this lake

But try not to hurt someone for God's sake

Love is beautiful

Love is powerful

The outside of you is like a built mask

You could ask

You can adorn and dress it with beauty

You could use a mask

To cover evil or good

But search towards the inside

What if you remove the mask

What will remain of the inside

Is it good or bad?

Many of us uses masks

Let our inside speak for us

Some of us are masked unknowingly

It's time to let the world know

How beautiful we are on the inside

We've gotta forget those masks

Ahead of us, we've got bigger tasks
