The measure of loveA Poem by fundamelliesome funny musings on loveI tried to put the world into boxes
Discovering it was like chasing after young foxes
The earth is so full of pieces and bits
But it’s hard to find one that really fits
So many criteria I wanted them to fulfil:
They should be nice to look at but not weigh too heavily on my bill
Pleasant to touch, with meaning to them and easy to find
And loved by you and me, were the points I had on my mind
Some boxes I used were big and others were small
And put onto each other they created a tower which was quite tall
They would have reached the moon and drawn a whole circle back
But they kept falling down – Well, what the heck?
There were boxes of blue, of red and yellow
And I must say this surprised many a fellow
There were boxes of all shapes and seizes as well
And the number of them I am unable to tell
There were possibly as many boxes as stars in the sky
The world is so diverted and that is the true reason why
Some were half empty but others were filled
But I didn’t put animals in for fear of having them killed
Why did I come up with such a crazy idea in the first place?
I wanted to impress my love and I wanted a thing to amaze
To lay all thing in the world dear to her down in her lap
Without having her think my love was a trap
But my task remained quite an impossible dream
Putting all things together is not as easy as it may seem
The boxes would pile up higher and high
Forming a wall that blocked out the sky
So I got rid off all the boxes I had obtained
And choose to tell you what I had gained
In all of those years during which I knew you
And if you listen now you will know it is true:
There are things in the world that require no measure
And one thing above all because it’s the ultimate treasure
I am the richest person without boxes of gold
As long as I‘ve got you close enough to hold
In my arms and now you know the absolute truth:
You don’t need boxes of riches, you don’t need youth
But if you have this one thing you will have forever enough
The one thing that doesn’t fit in a box is a crazy thing called love!
