Chapter 1: The First Day

Chapter 1: The First Day

A Chapter by Gracee

I stumble down the stairs. AHH! It's 7am and it's the first day of school. Yes, my parents left me the day before my first day of 7th grade. I walk into the kitchen. I walk over to the pantry and grab a granola bar. MMM..apple, my favorite. As I am about to plop into a chair to start my breakfast, I hear a horn outside--my bus. I grab my black and white backpack, stuff my cell-phone into my pocket and burst out the door.

I climb the four steps onto the yellow bus that apparently will be my only transportation this year. And the next. And the next. The bus-driver has a smirk on his face. I guess he's never met a skater in his life. All of the other kids on the bus are staring. I make my way to the back row and take a seat in the very last seat. I pull out my phone. There are 3 texts waiting for me. Two from my BFF back home in New York, Mer, and one from my ex, Chase. I decide to reply to Mer's. Here's our conversation:

Mer: hey grl. i miss u so bad. how life in seattle? how much does it rain? :) lol. ily! <3 mer

Me: i miss u 2. i have been here 2 days and its rained both. 2days the 1st day of skool, wish me luck! o ya, my parents left me--4ever, as in they r neva gonna c me again. duznt that suck? ily! <3 noa

Suddenly the bus is completely empty. I look out the window. Oh! I guess we're at school. I exit the bus quickly, trying not to make eye contact with anyone around me. I pull out my map and head inside for homeroom. On my way there, I bump into two kids. "Oh. Eek! Sorry about that," I say clumsily. They stop me. "Hi! I'm Devon and this is my twin brother Drew.  Which homeroom class are you in?" the girl with curly shoulder-length brown hair exclaims. "Umm, I'm in Miss Carlinson's homeroom. How about you?" I reply, fidgeting with my hands. "Miss Carlinson! Let's walk there together. Hey, are you new? You don't look familiar," she says, a half puzzled half excited look on her face. I give her a look-over from head-to-toe. Devon's wearing bright green Converse Chuck Taylors, faded blue skinny jeans from Hot Topic, a Linkin Park tee, and dark purple earrings. I look over to Drew. Close to the same. He's wearing Emerica skate shoes, red cords, a black and white checkered tee, and a rope bracelet. I lug my backpack past eight classroms, until Devon stops me at one. The door is marked with a large, rectangular sign that reads: Welcome to Miss Carlinson's Room--Room 207. We head inside and make our way towards a cluster of three desks. My first day of 7th grade.
