What it means to help

What it means to help

A Poem by Lox
"

Even a Magical Guy learns the essences of life

"
I am a magical guy
Blessed with this magical strife
And yet I lack the purpose
Of what to do in life

One day as I sit by the shade
Of a tree beside a road
Stumbled upon me with such surprise
A magical talking toad

"What are you doing guy?"
said the amphibious brood
"I wanna find a way to use my powers
just to put me in the mood!"

"Why don't you use your powers
to help those in need?"
"I'd like to, Mr. Toad
but what's in it for me?"

"I don't know Mr. Guy,
I don't think I can help you,
Why don't you ask Ms. Butterfly there
She's sure to give you a clue."

Magical guy with nothing to do
wanders off to see the Butterfly
In colors yellow and blue.

"Hello there Ms. Butterfly
can you lend me some help
I'm finding a way to kill time,
So I'd have fun myself."

"Hi there magical guy!
I'll be glad to assist,
Why don't you use your powers
to help the environment at risk?"

"To help the environment
from dying to be free,
I'd love to Ms. Butterfly,
But what's in it for me?"

"I don't know Mr. Guy,
I don't think I can help you,
Why don't you ask Guy #2 there
he's sure to give you a clue."

Magical guy with nothing to do
wanders off to see
Magical guy #2

"Greetings #2! Why haven't I thought of this before?
We of the same kind,
Must have the same problems galore!"

"Au contraire #1!
I have better things to do!
With these magical powers
I can help others too!"

"Help other people?
whats in it for you?
You help them with nothing in return!
Tell me #2!"

"Listen well #1!
We are blessed with magical powers
Other people are not
Its only fair that you share
Blessings with them lot"

"I just do not see
How that shall set me free
From this boring anomaly,
From this monochromatic variety!"

"Why don't you try doing it
I'm sure you'd understand
What it means to lend
Blessings from hand to hand."

Magical guy with nothing to do
wanders off to see
if what #2 says is true

He goes to a village
With apparent demise
All the villagers in hunger
confused and derived

Magical guy uses his powers
He casts "Food grow and live!"
With the little effort he did
Its super effective!

Everyone in the village
Ate with pure delight
As magical guy felt nothing
In his deed he'd done that night

As he was to set off
With his dissatisfaction
2 kids, boy and girl
Offered him a distraction

"Thank you Mr. Guy!"
said the girl's teary eye
"We can now eat at last!"
said the boy who had fast

"You'd fill our tummies
with the greatest of ranks
with the tiniest of effort
we offer you our thanks!"

Glaring over those bright smiles
And eyes barely tearing
Did Magical Guy just realize
The essence of helping

Magical guy with nothing to do
Now wanders off to help
those in need its true...

Strongly reminds of "Green and ham" with the really funny names and simple, streamlined plot. "Magical guy" really cracked me up. On the other hand, your poem really poses an interesting question about ethics and investigates a much darker aspect of human nature— greed.

You captured the joys of lending out a helping hand
and the way you tell a story is quite interesting

I just see more to your words
Like this story had not ended just yet

I like this one really well. Even when it seems like being it is hopeless to use our talents, it is astounding when we find that we can actually find a way to help others. The greatest thing about helping others is even when you feel like it bit you on the a*s, at least the doer can rest easy knowing that he or she did what was right.

Hey, I am old! LOL We look at things in a whole other way.
This is a good read. People are always wanting to do something if they get something in return but we should all learn to give freely not expecting anything back - which is where the true reward comes in unexpectedly like at the end of your story! Thanks for sharing :)
