Empty

Empty

A Poem by Emily Murphy

When I hear your voice I feel emptier than that hole in the middle of your chest

How many times have you tested me and gotten the best of me when you didn’t deserve

Any of me

You taught me the difference between love and lust

Because when you love someone, you don’t destroy their trust

But you let my love for you gather and settle on top of the shelf

Like dust

Now you’re collecting all of your words and calling me on the phone

Telling me that you miss me and you don’t want to be alone

But my darling your lack of true colors have shown

And the blackness in your soul has swallowed you whole
