A Dozen Roses

A Dozen Roses

A Poem by Emily Murphy

This is not where I belong

And I know that life and love is temporary

But what if it’s all wrong and what if all the songs I ever wrote

Never get heard

My head and my heart are swollen

This is not the life I should have chosen

I remember when my cheeks were the color of a dozen roses

But now the pedals are broken and everything’s frozen

I feel like I’m getting left behind the curtain

I shouldn’t have made this choice when I wasn’t certain

I never wanted to become a burden

I never wanted to become a burden
