Banisters

Banisters

A Poem by J. Scarlett

Banisters

Spider webs are strung hastily

Over well-used banisters

We traverse this particular staircase

Not because it has the best view

But because it is the fastest route

We walk thoughtlessly

Hardly thinking of those future moments

Which will soon become our present

We believe that the moments of this plastic life

Are those which define us

And perhaps for some of us they are

But for others

This is only another thread

Stretched fragilely across the banister

Easily blown away

And easily rebuilt

Hello J. Scarlett,

I like the premise of this write but I find it a bit confusing. The lines;

"Spider webs are strung hastily
Over well-used banisters"

Seems to be a contradiction since you don't usually encounter spider webs in a location that is "well-used" also when I think of spider webs they wouldn't necessarily been spun "hastily"? So this bit is a little confusing.

Also I stumbled a little over this line;

"We believe that the moments of this plastic life"

And found myself wondering about the meaning of a "plastic life" Does it refer to our throw-away society?

Just a few thoughts,

Satine
