The title grabbed my interest, Frieda, and I am so so glad I read this. I agree that death is the other half of life, just like good and evil, day and night, even peas and carrots aka forrest gump :) I think your final line says it all and we're all gonna face it one day, but it's like you say "other's are tone deaf to humanity's revealing cries" - damn this is good :)

I must agree this is one of my favorites of yours. Of course I have to agree with the sentiment, but you've worded it so aptly here as usual.

Frieda this is one of your best poems I think. Like the others I also loved the title and

I pledge my allegiance to the Queen of pontification...I'm awake, and the coffee smells pretty damn good...this reminded me of a line from Steppenwolf (via songwriter Hoyt Axton): I see a lot of people walkin' round with tombstones in their eyes...with every passing day, life seems to imitate art a little more, which would be great, except that it's imitating the wrong art...I'm seeing it here with increasing regularity, and it's sad...I've seen it in the comments on your own writing, which is sadder...I'm not sure whether to smirk in bitter amusement or sigh in poignant sympathy...I started with the former when I first read through this, but I find myself leaning towards the latter as the words sink in...that's what you do Mrs.R...every word you write is a key to unlocking its own emotion...xo

HA knackered and holier than thou, now there's a poem in there somewhere!!
The title is just wow!!! I know sarcasm drips from your very tongue. You've very rightly pointed Freida " death lives among the living"- people who have become heartless. "They are walking copses. O yea!! Wake up-its about time you realise you will also be walking in the shoes of the others. While you have time - lend empathy to the others... sarcasm should only be used by the ones who are expert at it or else they may get hurt. And you Freida are an expert at this. You always have something new to give to the reader. Cheers :) lets have some coffee?? Lol

Enjoying your imagery and word choice, which has impact. Compassion is, indeed, the key to peace, and people are often dead to empathy. An important topic written well!

I concur, thanks so much for your visit and review FBD.
I can realate to this writing whole heartedly. The image of those "Dead man walking" is a refreshing one, see, some just don't want to ask questions and believe their own hype to live happily everafter. Is easy and convinient. So from there they start to place situations into boxes. Entertaining the image if death then is one of those concepts put into the box of oblivion. Honestly why will you make yourself aware of it's presense when is so much easier to live without it?. So smell the coffee and wake up is in this context full of determination.
Can I have that with a shot of whisky please?
(I hope no notes of this charming man remain )
Full of wisdom this.
Thankyou
