Holy Sarcasm

Holy Sarcasm

A Poem by Frieda P
"

_

"
I overheard someone complacently spew,
move on your way, walk in the light
'death is for dead people'         holy sarcasm,
that might be profound if it were not so absurd
death lives amongst the living regularly
people null and void of empathy
like the feeling deficient who think they're all that,
    loss, betrayal, obsessions, recessions, addictions
madness perpetuating the death prattle
people breathing self righteous smog within stiff life
madness choking the life out of survival,
lost the plot in your condescending lecture,
redemption comes to those full of kindness & grace

wake up and smell the coffee
you might walk in those dastardly shoes one day...
some people are just lucky, listen to the music
other's are tone deaf to humanity's revealing cries
may as well show some compassion whilst you still can,

no one gets out alive anyway

The title grabbed my interest, Frieda, and I am so so glad I read this. I agree that death is the other half of life, just like good and evil, day and night, even peas and carrots aka forrest gump :) I think your final line says it all and we're all gonna face it one day, but it's like you say "other's are tone deaf to humanity's revealing cries" - damn this is good :)

Just dealing with the passing of a good friend last week, and seeing the affect on his wife and son, this one hit home. Not that anyone was saying these things, but I could relate to how insensitive comments would make it so much worse. Well written.

I was sitting by my uncles wife when i heard her tell an old friend in his 70s "well ole timer it is almost over for you " Oh it will be glorious when you finally cross over to heaven " I thought you gotta be kidding me i can tolerate religious zealotry but to this was too much for me. In many ways her feelings on religion were so out of step with polite behavior.I was ashamed to be related even through marriage. So I say let em all live as they please but leave the rest of us to our own thoughts

that cat at the end though... really well done here death does walk amongst us we know it we fear it grieve it risk it. It permeates our way of life now and it should not..... be mindful that you will die but let that make you kind not greedy selfish or self righteous is that it?

Truly profound depiction of the way death can haunt the living and the deaf ear that some people have towards the effects of it in the everyday life of some people. I could see why you'd become frustrated with a statement such as that and I like the way you prove it untrue. Spectacular piece, as always, keep it up!

Wow...I am not sure what to say...I saw the title and thought of something completely different. You have captured a section though, but the section is sad...holy sarcasm is the fact that the irony is... it is true. Well done...you should add a couple of verses more....

Just wanted to make a point, not slay anyone!
So hard hitting Frieda.
I've died a million deaths in my short life, yet here I am still living.
Each time I died I came close to losing everything, we're so close sometimes. So close.
People should really show more empathy.
No one gets out alive... Great line.

I agree with you. And I shall join you on your soap box. How dare people negate the pain of others. There's one thing to wallowing to the point of not functioning, but we have a right to live with our devils. They are a part of us, and yes, if you are so lucky nothing tragic ever happened to you or so sociopathic you can't feel your own tragedies, it isn't necessary to be cruel. Let's hope your perfect life doesn't crash in on you one day. Great write Frieda!

Thanks so much KL....yep, I concur and Amen to that!
This sends a great message. So many people are lost in their own world. Ignorance is bliss, but only to the ignorant.
