woah mumma, i was never a barbie kind of gal, always played with cars and trucks, played softball and basketball, rode my bike all through the cane fields, played cricket with my dad, I guess I was raised in a 'you can have anything you want' kinda a way 'you just gotta go out there and grab it'
I am not so certain that Barbie was a gypsy, instead she perhaps demanded that her hair be just right she wore only the best clothing, lets face it her b***s and butt were always in magnificent shape too, I am imagining that once a week she had her nails done 'just the right shade of pink' and she probably expected to have Ken pay for everything ( I wonder what Ken did for employment, the poor bugger) having owned and sold two businesses in hospitality I worked damned hard and never expected anything from anyone, my road was always going to be hard fought, but I wouldn't change the experience for a single moment in time
what's the saying .... you reap what you sow ... d****t gals if you want a decent life, a loving man, to be surrounded by unconditional love then just put it out there, ask the universe ... believe to recieve...
and yes I agree with you Frieda on what Mad Englishman said ... Even though I am the biggest Tomboy I know I would never trade being a woman for anything :)
having said all that ... a very worth rant indeedy .....
perhaps we need some modern day Fairy Tales to reflect the reality in which we all now live ;)

Adorable-- reminds me of a book -- Cinderella ate my daughter-- I think, about how this Disney princess culture causes young girls to grow up thinking that being pretty and daydreaming of Prince Charming should be thier values-- so detrimental to thier seeing themselves just as capable and equal in a relationship as men-- glad I grew up with Legos and trees to climb, and that Voltron, was my fave cartoon.
Anyway, I could write an essay about how much I can't stand Hollywoods depiction of romance, that causes women to wait for men to make all the big decisions... A man on his knees with a diamond ring-- asking her to marry him-- (it's a surprise discussion! Should she say Yes?!).
I vomit every time...

Laughing here, I stand corrected, you're probably right now that I think about it! :)
Flowing gowns, prince charming they are all illusion, when you go near it,it disappears just like mirage.Very well penned Freida .we need to make the kiddos of this age aware to face the fact.. ;) Nice theme. Duhh!! Who needs to eat poison apple ;)

Yep, I passed on the poison apple too, thanks Sophy :)
I absolutely loved this one. I tried to review on my phone and had trouble, and had to come back to it. Of course, you would know this one would be a fave of mine. It breaks my heart when my kids tell me they don't want to get married -- the juxtaposition of fantasy and reality has kids under 10 screwed up already.

Powerful. Who knows the damage the fairy tale / perfection causes us when we're small, maybe, causing us to overreach when we get big, and not all of us, are prepared for those very real disappointments, that await us all...
A real provoking piece, Frieda, and, I hung around to listen to Tori sing for a while, too.
Thank you, for sharing this.

Thanks so much Diego, glad you stuck around for Tori too, she's really talented...
I loved this chica. From childhood we have this vision of how life will be from our favorite fairytales. The prince and the glass slipper and ooohhh the "happily ever after" all lies, now you grow up and realize that isn't life at all.

Love it, FP. Yes, I was once inspired with the thought of putting "something" into a kitchen appliance but common sense told me I would probably disagree with probable consequences. This is all about jagged contrast and I can really appreciate the distant angst.
If you want to know me, read my poetry, it's all in there. I am a mother of three sons (my finest moments) a sister, a survivor and a little bit crazy. I lost my beloved sister to suicide, so you'll.. more..
