Fed upon your metaphors...

Fed upon your metaphors...

A Poem by Frieda P
"

poetry's sinful appetite

"
Fed upon your metaphors
like a zombie's lust for blood
howl'd at the moon in your
            verbose verbiage's alliteration
 piece by piece, like Frankenstein's
              monster you conjur'd me whole
sucked out the guts and laid me
flat in ghostly passages twisted cravings
  dwelling 'tween light and darkness
         assimilated in your inky draft

dancing amuck within your tangled webs
just the other side of nightmare's exposure
drinking in the sea of your heaving tidal steamers
           punch drunk in phantasmal's obsession
high voltage
flipped me over like an abstract
               Dali painting's w***e
  I come away ghastly satiated,
              macabre though it may seem
thrills and spills in every tempting morsel
            of affecting poetry's sinful appetite

Wow I couldn't help think about how someone somewhere reads the future using chicken guts. We fall into metaphors so easily we poets forgetting there is a literal meaning to just about everything. And so the trap is set...will we see it before it is too late because I'm a metaphorical girl living in a literal world.

A sinful appetite it is. But in a way, we all get sucked in and violated. But, I think us poets are masochists for that kind of violation :) It's a double-edged sword we all enjoy, in the end, even for a moment.

A zombie's lust for blood was a perfect metaphor.

Your beautiful poem exposes the power of the metaphor. Your poem inspire me to write this tiny gift poem for you which you may keep as your own: These inspired poems only take me minutes to write.

Metaphor

I met a One,
a rising sun.
I met a Two,
a lover true.
I met a Three,
a Trinity.
I met a Four,
a metaphor

for that quadruped
walking through my head.
