Warrior poets~on 'the wrong side of forty'/

Warrior poets~on 'the wrong side of forty'/

A Poem by Frieda P
"

~ poets in their prime...not for the faint of heart ♥

"

Not for the faint of age~

dance of warrior poets

ravaged at the hands of time

fine wine and poesy in prime

history dials a perfect'd rhythm

dalliances of past allegiances

knowledge in presence of mind

twisted of limelight and tang

walkabouts through fallacies

drive-bys with blind eyes' status mode

vitality of heydays cream'd piece de resistance

heightened maturity of springtime blooms

choice elation and darkly rhymed seasons

unfamiliar mirror changes of  reflection's hills,

in classically tailor'd chef-d'oeuvre     accomplish'd

treasured strokes of genius in vintage pen

written in flourishes of inky stain'd blood

Ah those crazy over forty poets... maturity and seasoning makes for more creativity? Probably...but its also about the need to write as much as we can while we still can. And being fearless in the expression of thoughts and emotions. Your right on the money with this piece... painting an amazing portrait of life on the other side. x

Having kept my Muse to myself until well over 40, this resonates to my core. Youth has its advantages, but so does age - we get to a point where we can confidently say - this is me, this is my voice, this is my poetry - like it or don't.

As for the song, well - it's one with special meaning for me... So thank you, Frieda!

Being an over 40 poet myself, I think to write, at least to write anything but fluff, you need to feel. And in order to learn how to feel, you need to live. And experience. And usually ( but not exclusively,) that xomes with the passage of time. So heres to getting wiser with age, and better, like a fine wine. Salut!

Oh Oh I Don't Know .....I love Stevie and I love this poem Frieda! My favorite line: walkabouts through fallacies, drive-bys with blind eyes' status mode. Gee, I kinda sound like her with all the rasp of my cold. Ty Dear Frieda your poem is the reason I sang today:) feeling a wee bit better>>>>>

So jazz'd to put a wee smile on your face Queenie, thanks so much! ;-) Sing on..............
Being just past forty myself, I think there will be much more to learn and give. Much more to live... and cherish and sorrow... and yes, write.
I love this song. Not my favorite version of it, but it sort of fits the poem with an "older" sounding vocal.
Yes, "RECREATION"!

You are the most prolific, unique and polished writers here at the café. The works often border on brilliance beyond the Café. Frieda I always read you but rarely know the words to express when reviewing such amazing work.
