Acid Reign

Acid Reign

A Poem by Frieda P

Standing in the acidic reign again
   teeming of fluid rancor'd vibrations
canvas of tears painted tremor's pulse
flames of despair sans safety umbrella
enveloping skin's powerless soak'd wounds
   drowning in mist'd discoloration's deterioration
astringent air causes a back-draft to singe,
the slanted horizons blanch a menacing face,
disfiguring outgoing scenic routes glitch'd
sands of time pile on storm's outer ledge
waging war upon thine own self untrue
    genetically alter'd weather patterns amok
dousing hope of hourglass's protective view
dissolving soul in shine's darkly evaporation

Ah I didn't have it in me to keep you waiting Mrs.R ;P It's been pointed out that my piece had a bit of tongue-in-cheek-ness to it, but there is no humour to be found here. The title pun sets the table perfectly...I knew I was in for something intense and emotional, and as always, you didn't disappoint. Of course there are mixed feelings in the sense that I know where this one came from, but nobody turns confessional works into gleaming poetic art with the effectiveness that you do. Another tradition that stems from your writing is me never being able to cite particular parts for praise. Compared to my own stuff, which is often broken into short sections, your voice has a lava flow to it. Every poem you pen is a true journey, AND a destination...and you're always welcome to my umbrella-ella-ella...sorry, I couldn't resist ;) xo

Holy Cow!

the sorrow just leaps from this piece and slaps us in the face...metaphorically about every possible pelting of rain..menacing horizons that say it won't get better...and hope completely doused.

Thanks so much jacob, coming from a poet who's words I adore makes my heart happy indeed.
Powerful piece, Frieda. I truly am awestruck by the endurance of your pen. The city of your mind never sleeps.

Ha I don't pay you enough, the check is in the mail. ;-)
Fiona got it wrong Frieda, empathy is not the same as sympathy or pity, it is more the way someone can hold your hand by just being there... not asking how you feel, but knowing that you are capable of becoming stronger, not by saying it, but by showing it simply by treating you as an equal and as a human being... and sometimes this is more of a "fix" than someone trying to "fix you".. you describe this pain perfectly with this: " enveloping skin's powerless soak'd wounds
drowning in mist'd discoloration's deterioration
astringent air causes a back-draft to singe," it often is like this, just when it seems better, "back draft" singes you yet again, sometimes Frieda, empathy means the simple act of bring you a hot cup of hot chocolate with marshmellow on top on a cold wintery and snowy night... ..

Frieda, you really do know how to bring out the feeling in us... beautiful.. and thanks.. ~~redzone

Powerful. The title was very tempting and the content absolutely delivered what the title promised. I think I'm getting a sense of your style and it's very interesting! Another wonderful poem.

Grazie mille BlackRose.
Like acid it erodes and scars our souls without mercy. There appears to be no shelter...no armor with which to guard against the onslaught. It is merciless...

Acid reigns too often in this world while the rest of us burn beneath its lashing

sands of time pile on storm's outer ledge
waging war upon thine own self untrue

while ruining everything good, pure and honest in our world.
