'Opheliac~

'Opheliac~

A Poem by Frieda P

My eternal spring of Ophelia ~
   madness bedecked of wildflowers
 vacant within virginal white tears
sunk to the depths of despair
ocean's vast siren call
    consuming beyond reality
barefoot'd romanticizing
   melancholy waves of emotions
sank in a lover's betrayal
   stately and classical dignity
 feigned delusions of confusion
delirium of mania's absurdity
      secretly married ruse of insanity
 doused in bewildered over flow
      preserving a life within entity~
   Fleurs éternelles de la France

Lorsque vous parlez français, il donne tout le poème je ne sais quois! Hamlet went mad with his love for her. Quite the Valentine's Day thought, n'est pas? In your eternal Spring, will you go to a nunnery as Ophelia was instructed to do? No way! You will sing your songs (write your poems) handing us the flowers they create in our minds. I so enjoyed the fact you used a Shakespearean character as the inspiration here. Wonderfully unique....and so YOU! Lydi**

You have told her story like a true Shakespeare buff Mrs.R haha ;) Really though, this is an incredible and crystal-clear portrayal of her plight and all the tragedy associated with it. Further proof that you can take absolutely any subject and make it your own, whether it's familiar territory or not :) You have my unconditional applause my friend. xo

This my friend is sad but penned to perfection. If I remember correctly it was said she was "incapable of her own distress" though I have to think otherwise...at least within those dark corners. I also recall the line, "A woman's love is brief". That may very well be the case, but I can tell you my love of this poem will be anything but brief...

Love can be kind, so very kind but it can also be deadly. How we see it is not always how it sees us.

Stunning Frieda, you take pen in hand and wave beauty before our eyes always. You truly do amaze me.

That could be a fate worse than death....thanks xavier ;-)
you really capture her perfectly...i teach that play in my lit class...and we delve much into Ophelia's psyche....and she really did secretly marry insanity...not so much by her own volition...

Ahhh.... Ophelia. Such a tragic character. And some of the most quoted lines of Shakespeare are connected to her. Youve depicted her so well here....and that first line is a grabber. The perfect wording for the madness of a young woman. The picture shows her as having red hair...might explain a lot. We tend to drive others crazy or our own poor souls. ;-)

Another amazing poem...

So well done Frieda.. this makes me think of Shakespeare — 'I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum.' EXCELLENT! :)
