~Encloak’d in Red

~Encloak’d in Red

A Poem by Frieda P
"

Yes, another wickedly twisted fairy tale...."The better to eat you with my dear” Baaaaa

"
Sinister nights encloak'd in red
hesitant to take a breath of crisp air
whispering through the tree limbs,
ominous overload of hush'd secrets
biting at the nape of the neck
who could appear in this darkly rush
wolves thirsting with lust
fairy tales are only a spooky myth
or so I thought....
out of nowhere leapt
ripping through veins with no heart
bloody crimson dogs of fear
shivers ran up and down my spine
he lay me down on virgin snow
closed my eyes tight in fright
when who should come to my rescue
a white knight with a sword
he slay'd each and every one
turn'd those boogahs into one slick red hood,
the terrorizing nightmare ended
my new life had just begun,

~we never did make it to grandma's....

This is another wonderful adventure of your mind and you capture the beauty of the surroundings and the essence of the evil and the hero perfectly. I know I say this all of the time, but this one right here may be one of your best. I actually got lost in this poem about halfway through, standing out there in the frigid forest and had to read it again just to remind myself that it is a poem. You have taken the ageless tale of good vs. evil and painted it in only a way that you can. Whether it is dark and desperate, loving and affectionate or sad and heart wrenching or priceless humor, you always present your thoughts in an amazing display of your talents. The beauty of your words always reaches in and tugs on my heart, always leaving me wanting more. If I may borrow something of yours;”100 thank yous” for sharing this engaging piece with us today. Each of your poems it seems brings with them their own zephyr, for I always find myself blown away when I read you. I am so thankful I have big eyes, because it just makes it, “the better to read you with, my dear”. Going to tuck this one away in my favorites so it is easy to find when I am in need of a huge smile.

Now there's an interesting title, will have to check that one out, thanks KL.
I'm certainly not going to read Red Riding Hood quite the same way again, lol! I'm glad to see that the old folk tales are not forgotten. Indeed, these stories are the lifeblood of literature--be they tall tales, fairy tales, myths, etc. I have personally a copy of Grimm's fairy tales, and it never ceases to amaze me the profound depth of character and striking storytelling virtuosity found within these seemingly simple tales.

Many thanks for the submission. :)
