The day the poetry died...

The day the poetry died...

A Poem by Frieda P

there were no blue jays overhead
no meadows of swaying wildflowers
not a love note to be sung
nary a sigh in nectar'd wings flight
sad lyrics left its indelible indifference mark
melody of life's sweet arias gone tone deaf
dances on sunset's horizons sank darkly
moonlit kisses just a distant memory
the brass ring of life tarnished
that day you said good-bye~
the day the poetry died...

Oh, yes, when a love leaves us, the poetry leaves our lives. There is nothing lyrical about how we feel and we do not want to think in iambic pentameter or acrostics. After a while, it all comes back, but is it ever really the same? I don't think so. What a gorgeous song you chose to accompany your words. Great stuff. Lydi**

I thought I had spotted correlation between the writer's block and an event in the life of your character, and I especially delight in the fact that you depict the precise transformation from earth-shattering sorrow to general apathy and numbness, because that's the exact feeling that writer's block often accompanies, or at least in my case. Well done.

Always an intriguing review from you Tai, you make me look at my own poetry in a different light.
Poetry will die if you stop writing the amazing poems you do, Frieda. I loved the emotion, wording and imagery. The flow was perfect... do me a favour, don't ever stop.

A thought provoking piece Frieda. When we leave our words may still linger in the ears and be seen in the eyes of those that have read us.

Nicely done.

Thanks so much Quirklet, muchly appreciated!
I agree with what's been said here...kind of like what happened with Buddy Holly, the day the music died...

sometimes people are just so poetic to us...they are our muse in life...and when they die...the words die with them...

The good review below has got it right; two themes worked together, they complement and reinforce the poetic message. Like this too !

Thanks Leslie, jazz'd you enjoyed!
This depicts an emotion I've recently come to fear. It's a scary thing to give so much of yourself to someone and knowing should they leave, you will lose pieces of yourself. Great write, Frieda.
