~I never did learn to fly

~I never did learn to fly

A Poem by Frieda P

...and I never did learn to fly
   always trying to take flight
came close a time or two,
could never quite get off the ground
wings were clipped as a fledgling
       stories written on caged walls
echoed, yet there were no lyrics to sing
without a voice on a prayer
plummeted to  abysm's bottomless pit
till I could feel no more
there in the dark stillness lie the secret
rhythm and music filled the air
Found the poetry within my soul
realized the wings were in my heart
all along, I was meant to dance

Never quite learned to fly, but you know how to dance... Beautifully portrayed piece. This one speaks to the beauty of human nature, in my opinon. We so often try (bang our heads against the wall) to be something that we are not, when the truth of our souls is hidden within all the time, waiting to be unlocked. Really enjoyed this one...

Now here we go. A poet with vision and imagination that lets our minds eye enjoy full view of her thoughts and expressions. Love it. Please keep writing. Send this to a contest it is wonderful. I must admit you have also given me pause to think of my wings newly found. Pilot and Poet. Thank you.

Everyone has poetic wings, but few know that they have 'em, and even fewer know how to use 'em. You have some wonderful lines here. Wings are great metaphors. What would a caterpillar be without butterfly wings that let her dance poetic motions across Summer skies?

WOW, so often we don't realize where our strengths lye, but you have found your wings in your poetry and learned how to make words dance across the page. Greatly enjoyed this poem. Trace

Thanks joshua, nice of you to stop by....
Oh Frieda I adore that last verse! It felt like a miracle and I guess that's just what it is, when you think you can't write and then realise you can. Love that positive ending. Gorgeous! And I also love the contrast from the main body of the poem to that last verse. Clever penning that show the reader how difficult that journey can be, yet the rewards at the end are breathtaking within our own spirits.

Maybe you've been looking at the wrong metaphor. Maybe you weren't meant to fly but to burn as a surviving flame, dancing in the night. :) Nice Frieda
