Dry Clean Soul

Dry Clean Soul

A Poem by Frieda P

I tried to cover up my soul
as it stood naked before you
dripped dried, darkly spun
stripped of vestment's protection
you saw through the outer layers
built up over years of excess
dry clean bills &  starchy residue
stripped of lace and adornings
memories tucked in pocket folds
it bled through frayed button holes
spat out of iron's steam venting
as it seeped into all the wrinkles

I need not don a new wardrobe
no more hiding in dark shadowed closets
of old oddly layered ill fitting winter garb
acceptance finely wove a silken spirit

We long for acceptance...someone who will see beneath our scars and the mask we wear to protect ourselves. I found that in you and I hope you know that I see the beautiful person you are. You are perfect in every way...inside and out, my dearest friend and confidant. xo

Thanks so much for your kind words Dye, very freeing....
Confession is good for the soul - we all know that who would have thought that exposure was good for the soul? You make me think - hard - Frieda about the nature of the soul and how life can affect it and acceptance help to replenish.
This is very deep and spiritual Frieda and just what we need in these times of shallow and materialism.
Far from delightful but definitely necessary - a staple for us all.

It is so hard to take it all off and stand there in the open. What a terrifying freedom it is when we find that person to bare it all to. Acceptance is the key. Angi~

Acceptance really does change people's lives, thanks Angi...
A very moving piece. "I tried to cover up my soul
as it stood naked before you" I'm in love with these lines.

Wow thanks Ron, that's quite a compliment for a poet!
Frieda, today I find before my eyes and stunningly clad poetic beauty, opening her heart, standing before a window, answering a knock on the door, a door that has not opened in some time. I feel the joy of "acceptance" and the desire for the dream which had hidden locked deep within that dark closet. Wearing a smile that is genuine and in style with the days ahead fashions. No more browns and blacks, replace with vibrant colors and sparkling jewelry to match the sparkle now found in these eyes.

Your poem is beautiful, it makes me happy and it lifts my heart. the spirit which resides in your words is a happy light, sending winter away and welcoming a springtime of wonder. Very nice my amazing friend.

From scratchy winter garb to silken fabrics. That is what we need. Our souls like our organs, most assuredly they reflect the wear and tear of choices made and deeds done. I love the title and the play on words that you so expertly use. And the word vestments totally rocks in this piece.
