Slow Burn

Slow Burn

A Poem by Frieda P

Time has been
 unkind to the heart
with each ache
 another piece falls
into an open pit of the abyss

       cinders of burning ashes
       fiery embers of the past,
 crushing smoke's suffocation

have proved to make it
 impossible
to breathe
 or love         another

I heard the cries of smoldering love
               dying a a slow death
                  the essence of black roses
                       laid to rest

burial would have been a much kinder fate

A somewhat somber poem but no less intriguing for it, looks as if the wounds caused by life's trails impinged deeply and have now taken their toll on the weary subject and they seem beyond any kind of remedial therapy too mend this broken heart !

Beautifully penned poem, soulfully scribed !

I love this poem. I can't quite find the words to explain why, but I love how it made me feel and I love how easily we can relate to the words.

-sorry, had a case of mushy brainz! :p

What a beautiful piece - both visually and linguistically - a very soulful verse artfully constructed.

Vide 'o mare quante bello,
Spira tantu sentimento,
Comme tu a chi tiene mente,
Ca scetato 'o faie sunna.

Guarda, gua, chistu ciardino;
Siente, sie sti sciure arance:
Nu profumo accussi fino
Dinto 'o core se ne va

E tu dice: "I parto, addio!"
Talluntane da stu core
Da sta terra de lammore
Tiene 'o core 'e nun turna

Ma nun me lassa,
Nun darme stu turmiento!
Torna a Surriento,
Famme ca mma

Vide 'o mare de Surriento,
che tesoro tene funno:
chi ha girato tutto 'o munno
nun l'ha visto comm'a

Guarda attuorno sti Sserene,
ca te guardano 'ncantate,
e te vonno tantu bene...
Te vulessero vas.

E tu dice: "I' parto, addio!"
T'alluntane da stu core
Da sta terra de l'ammore
Tiene 'o core 'e nun turn?

Ma nun me lass,
Nun darme stu turmiento!
Torna a Surriento,
Famme camp!

Torna a Surriento,

When the heart is broken, it is difficult to love again....difficult to accept kindness even. The raw emotions of a failed relationship are expressed so beautifully here, Frieda....as you always do so well. Lydi**

Failed relationships always tend to leave their mark, thanks Lydie.....
Indeed, kindness is often ripped from us without warning, well done my love, great read.

Thanks Thomas, now where did you disappear to?
absolutely. A charred heart is a sad thing.

Indeed, not very tasty either, thanks Tam.
Time is sometimes kind because it helps heal all wounds, it is unkind though because it makes it impossible to love another, like you have said above. I love this piece Frieda and thank you for the RR..

Thanks Leandro, glad you enjoyed!
This burns like an open wound, each line adds a tear... Love that makes it impossible to love again is indeed a soul's slow death. You make the reader feel the pain too, Frieda...
