Anticipation's Rhyme

Anticipation's Rhyme

A Poem by Frieda P

Anticipation, locked away in my heart
when love grew old and dreary
where once upon a time shone vivid light
Your face still haunts my memories
   haltingly beautiful eyes that captivated
windows to your soul, now darkened with time
Yet, I can't help but think of you & reminisce
when pensive rain hits my window pane
the sad sounds reminds me of an old rhythm
when our poetry still rhymed ~

We danced in well versed enraptured ecstasy
and there was no such thing as time

The personification of rain was well used to further the sadness and allow for greater impact of those final and very touching thoughts. "our poetry" only a great writer could impart such an all encompassing way to describe a relationship. Well done Frieda, short and sweet.

Ha, I can hardly remember that far back, thanks Cassie....
This is powerfully poignant. Our memories, when tempered with reality, leave us with complex memories that are sometimes hard to dissect and comprehend. However, we do miss the magical even if it didn't last. This is a wonderful poem when memories and regret collide.

Oh no, we know what happened last time you unleashed the vault! ha thanks Sirrah!
I think this is one of your loveliest poems, Frieda.. Lost love.. still in want and need, the reminiscence, the sadness. Beautiful work.. the last two stanzas are my fave.. such wonderful images captured there.

Oh wow Lori, thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it, it's one that's dear to me.
Ohh... I love the ending of this... and there was no such thing as time... I'm caught in that... and the image of eyes being darkened in time...
...and the rest, so full of melancholic pining, looking back and remembering those wonderful moments, a very vivid piece you have drawn here Frieda, beautiful...

Thanks Kleio, jazzed you liked this one.
" when our poetry still rhymed -- We danced in well versed enraptured ecstasy and there was no such thing as time" Ah, the bittersweetness of this line... the melancholy and regret.....wrapped itself around my heart. Absolutely divine poetry, Frieda. The longing for what once was is palpable in every line and the painting you chose to accompany your words is stunning as well. Lydi**

Time waits on none of us to be sure. And there we find the value of life. For if life were not measured in years there would be no value to the moments lost to foolish youth
