~Give Me My Wings~

~Give Me My Wings~

A Poem by Frieda P

...i run to catch you
          but your essence is fleeting
birds seem to know the answers
           that escape my reasoning
the heart took a rumble
               and the clouds darkened
skies parted just to glimpse
               a glance of your grace
whilst doves sang hymns
            in light of your plight
i thought the story had ended
but your flight had just begun
the writing on the wall read,
'give me my wings, I'm coming home'

this piece is so beautiful! i often think that the creatures that live around us in the world are far more aware of what is occurring in our world than even we are. maybe we ought to listen to those birds a bit more. your words here are so clandestine and give me the sense of a person's spirit living on long after their life has ended. with your words you give them wings, frieda! they may stay among us forever.

Perhaps a cheerful overlook on death, and returning to the unknown abyss? How delicious~

Give me my wings I'm coming home. That is such a beautiful line.

This is beautiful. It's scary feeling like you're about to lose someone, not knowing if they'll leave or stay. So the ending was very sweet.

Thanks so much Leslie...
"birds seem to know the answers
that escape my reasoning" - These lines say it all, the longing, the loneliness.

Awesome imagery Frieda...Loved the ending...coming home...it's such a comforting, wonderful thought.

Thanks muchly Leandro.
At first I thought this poem was the narrator talking to or about the man upstairs and at the end I thought IT to be about a loved one.

It started out to be one thing, and then ended up being about my sister, yes...thanks Annabelle.
Beautiful...it almost seems like your voice is branching out in recent writing, as I'm coming across elements in your work that are unique to me, some of which I've already pointed out...this poem has a certain peace-of-mind to it, a sense of contentment almost, that I'm not used to reading in you...a sense of urgency is the element I take most commonly from your words, but this is different, and different can be good...but throw all these ramblings out the window, there is still no doubt over who's voice is speaking here, and that voice belongs to an incredible poet that I will always look up to.
