~Ashes, We All Fall

~Ashes, We All Fall

A Poem by Frieda P

Where is love laid to rest
when it takes that last breath
are there markers at a grave-site
or does it purely burn out
much like ashes of cremation
no bejeweled urn to possess
terminated last rites,
sacrificed primordial
spiritual strength for recovery

~~

 if you've faith enough
  to say 'AMEN'

Wish I knew where it goes. My biggest fear is that it never really once. Perhaps if there where markers at a grave site we could look back and say yes indeed it did happen. But love is fleeting and as elusive as our lives themselves. Perhaps all we get in the end is our own knowingness. Okay Amen!

Great thought provoking read Frieda. You would think that perhaps the flames of passion and love would simply be snuffed out, but I think it is closer to that human death, where at first it doesn't seem real, like the body still seems tangible and perfectly attainable should we want it back, but then it begins to decompose and fester, until after a longtime even its scent becomes faint as a memory, and it's not the end that we choose to remember, but the time before the fall, when love was viewed as a possibility. When we learn to remember this we can move on again. Well done.

I can't help myself, it's like in your last poem, it pours out of me from I don't know where.

You're most welcome. ;)
I'm beginning to think love is something inside us we forget ww have until someone with a mirror showsuupfor us to reflect love onto. Then we don't recognize it and mistake the mirror for it

Hmm sound more like self love Mark, I guess we don't know what we have till it's gone most times...
It does seem to boil down to faith. Where we go and what happens is most certainly one of our most universal questions. You capture so many layers of this in your poem. These questions have been bouncing around in my head of late. Stellar poem as always.

Love is laid to rest in one's heart and that is where it will remain.Such a beautiful poem though a little eerie.

I like to throw a bit of eerie in every once in a while Onku, thanks my friend.
I find it humorous that we still bring flowers to the graves in hopes a little love will revive the long deceased . . .

Sometimes love just dies quietly, at others it goes out with a bang. Nice, if sad piece raising the question

They hardly seem to die quietly, or maybe that's just me. Thanks Gabriel.
I believe it lies and rots, becoming fertilizer.

Emotions becoming fertilized, that might not be good for the soil Mark, thanks my friend.
Ahh, I just read the reply to this, so that explains a little. Does each of us carry a miniature graveyard around for these loves that may have died prematurely, died from neglect or from the cold or from the heat? Cookie cutter holes in our hearts render us unable to forget, to forgive, to heal. I gather there are some who are able to officiate at the laying to rest those loves we wish to disentangle ourselves from, but I imagine there would be few Amens.

Love your insightful review minichinz, thanks, and yes, very 'few Amens' in that case...
That last line hits like a nail. I tend not to visit graves preferring to remember in other places and in other ways. But I can see that this is heartfelt and beautiful.
