'Speak to Me of Truth'

'Speak to Me of Truth'

A Poem by Frieda P

...and the Raven spoke to the butterfly
            "speak to me of truth"
the reply came humbly,
'who's truth do you want?'
The Raven looked a bit perplexed...
'there is only one truth that does not lie' he muttered.
Butterfly responded, 'perhaps it is as beauty, my clever friend;
'tis in the eye of the beholder'
Once again the flutterby spread her magnificent wings,
"there was a time I was held captive in a suffocating cocoon with no light, now watch me as I brilliantly take flight into the night'
As she fluttered off she left him with this thought to ponder,
'through your keen  Raven eyes, which is  the truth of truths
you wish to find in me?'

Truth is skewed by one's perception. I often thought the witness stand in trials should have a swearing in to be honest rather than saying 'tell the truth'. Honesty is pure, where truth is deceived by interpretation, preconceived ideas and/or ideals, and limitation of scope. Honesty requires the purity of what that person perceives...
Thoughtful words in your lovely poem, my friend!
Sometimes in misunderstandings I ask for someone's truth, 'their truth, whatever that may be' and what I mean by that is their honest interpretation of events, feelings, or circumstances... because our truths vary regarding any common situation, but if we're honest, we can almost always reach common ground to rectify a problem. IMHO :)

Exactly. :-)
Some people wouldn't know the truth if it stared them in the face, so better they have keen raven eyes. Thought provoking short piece felt like reading a Native myth.

Written like a rue poet... I love even the mere concept that the Raven and the butterfly could be pondering thought together.. shallimarRose

Things are actually always only what you are capable of seeing...
Your poem is a lesson study in perceptions...
I like the sybmbols of the Raven speaking with the butterfly. These creatures carry meaning indeed.
Flying is a great activity, yet they fly in the night?

I recently took a photography workshop where the instructor explained something peculiar, he explained that the screen on the back of the camera would lie to us, but the good news was, as soon as we learned how it lies, we would know the truth.

Well you leave many things to ponder... the truth just like beauty is in the ye of the beholder... coarse there is also a saying that goes "There are three sides to every story, yours, mine and the truth"
Anyways very much enjoyed this poem.

You are greatly welcome Moonbeam.
While reading this lovely poem, I admit that I was wondering whether or not the raven would eat the butterfly... then i read some of the reviews, found that others had also suspected as much, and then I came across one of the best quotes i've heard in a long long time:

'What the heck is up with you guys and eating butterflies?'

Well, dear, what else might a ravenous raven do... now I ask you...

To be sure, tho wonderful words quoth the raven, and likewise the apparenty unappetizing butterfly, in the end, Frieda, your quote will live 'evermore' in my mind -- i do have one you know...

I like any poetry that's good Mrs.R ;) Always a pleasure xo
What a lyrical piece! I stand with the butterfly: truth, beauty -- they are too much like rainbows to be strictly compartmentalized. The raven, I fear, is more accustomed to the dark and cannot recognize the grayer, lighter times of dusk and dawn. Beautiful and provocative.

Always love your reviews minichinz, thanks, I'm with butterfly too...
The raven could quite easily have had a snack....
Beautiful imagery and unique flow with this one. Definatley a thought provoking piece.

'through your keen Raven eyes, which is the truth of truths
you wish to find in me?'

This line was brilliant: I have asked this question a lot of myself. The truth is out there, what you make of it is up to you.

Troy
