Grinding Monkey Hook

Grinding Monkey Hook

A Poem by Frieda P

what's left to believe
    when veins have been purged
your pain sticks a needle in my heart
we both bleed
 the same shade of blue
weaving in and out of obsessions hook
 cravings are possessed
 by toxic bags of kick
monkey on your back as a grave marker
 with self fulfilling prophecy
grinding the music to a deathly tune
 that takes no prisoners
slept with my eyes open, still
couldn't save you from the litany that looms
last chapters pen'd in the etchings
primal guts on tombstones written in original sin
negotiations negligible and non pending
 in contracts of self delusions
tomorrows only suffice to write the legacy,
 an epitaph of unyielding sorrow

Oh Frieda,

How I cried when I read this. I felt each and every word. Even in overwhelming pain you are able to grasp those fears and bring them to life, even for the uninitiated. The future has never looked so frightening- especially since futures are so stunted when they only consist of a day at a time.

What our children suffer we do as well.... And we would gladly take it all from them. But we can't. So we hover over them like a guardian angel praying they will be safe..that they will be free of the chains of addiction. Its all we can do unfortunately. Wait and hope. Just know that others are hoping and praying with you. xo

A profound provisional type of write. Creatively unique along with a witty theme. Nice work. An enjoyable write and read. :)

If having a monkey on your back is ever clever, thanks Bpoet.
We sometimes make friends with those we shouldn't, we take comfort in shadows and dark corners, we find that being lost is somehow leading us to the light...even if the direction tears at the hearts of others. I really do not know what to say, that thread keeps pulling and is tightening by the day.

I am so sorry...and I too cry.

Thanks Jack, your friendship and support mean a lot to me....
I am awed by your ability to write this pain, this deep grief, so that the reader feels it with you. An embrace through cyberspace is all I can offer - and prayer.

Thanks my darling...
The writing is one off... stepped back a bit. It adds to the feeling of pain.. shield to deal. Excellent as always your gift is how eloquently and honestly you handle any subject you've written about. No affectation, just raw truth as you see it and feel it.

It doesn't get anymore raw than this, thanks Mark...
Such pain and sorrow demostrated in this piece. The unwanted mark of what life can deal with the hope that future will onlyu be a brighter place.

Nice work.

Thanks for your kind review Troy.
Frieda, I haven't followed your work much but since you visited me today I decided to return the visit. I've read the other reviews/comments and I sense it might be inappropriate to ask so I'll just say that I'm clueless as to what this is about but I stand with you in anyway you might find helpful or uplifting.

Thanks sprinkles.
How this write brought tears to my eyes. I not only read each word, but felt them. This is such an emotional, powerful write about a topic that plagues many families. You have shown great strength and courage.

As a mother it is very difficult to watch our children, no matter what age, facing any sort of addiction, especially one that is so fatal. It drains us of every ounce of energy as we stand by helplessly. Much love to you, my friend, as well as your son. May he find light in these times of darkness and see a brighter tomorrow.
