This is one of those that could mean so much to so many. Evil consuming beauty. Nature red in tooth and claw. Opposites attract but maybe not for the right reasons. Your ways of fitting such complexity into minimalist but beautiful poetry astounds me.

I'm astounded by your words Ken, you humble me, and also made my day, thanks so much....
Unequivocally blown away by the crow/butterfly image...you certainly have a gift for saying much in a short piece Mrs.R...you're a mistress of quality over quantity...love this one ;)

Crows like shiny things. Butterflies look nice but taste funny. Poppies... defiled... and smelling roses. Waking in the dark is sort of special as it is.

Lol I know some people that like shiny things too, thanks Mark.
Dark and foreboding.. the image of the crow, the trickster.. the butterfly as innocence.. innocence being tricked and shredded. The bandit defiling poppies.. another innocence destroyed. The roses.. love forbidden by pre-dawn shadows. This is an amazing poem, Frieda.. so much imagery and symbolism.

you are most welcome, Frieda.. it is a very insightful poem.
Damn crows!... they better leave my butterfly alone!
She spreads only beauty and love, who in the world would want to tear her wings?
This is a dark and dramatic depiction, cleverly written. Well penned, Friedalicious! ~xoxo~

Ha yes damn those crows, I don't know, some crows are just like that Robbie, thanks love! xo
Ominous and dark in imagery - crows nipping butterfly wings - the violent taking of innocence...
and the foreboding that more is to come... this one is intense, Frieda.
The darkness is all encompassing in this write sweet Frieda. Shadows do emerge in the pre-dawn hours to snatch away dreams when we least expect it. Torn and tattered butterfy wings are all that remain when the corw grins a crooked grin. You are an amazing poet, you cast your thoughts in a way that keeps us guessing while always knowing the exact meaning. Your heart is deep and open, it breathes in life and beauty but it too can be nipped at only so much. Very nice my friend.
