~The Taste of Death...

~The Taste of Death...

A Poem by Frieda P
"

questionable mysteries of death

"
What does death taste like,
          is it bittersweet or acerbic
does the scent jolt one
                   to senseless abandon
is the feel of floating
                on zephyr's eternally blissful
what does one see
           when faced with death's eyes
do angels beckon us
to join the alluring alliance of souls
a clarion sound of heaven's harmony
                             to peaceful sleep

or will the devil come a knockin'
                           with hell's bells last call
perhaps we merely become infinitesimal flecks
               endlessly ephemeral,         flitting
within pure grandness of the megacosm

This is such a beautifully constructed poem. Love the flow. You present your readers with some searching questions. I used to wrestle with these questions all the time.. so often I would drive myself insane from it. I finally resolved that death was a natural cycle of rebirth, and left it at that. Great job!

Not bad. Good use of imagery, and I think you've managed to handle your topic fairly well. I think there's room to expand, as the ending doesn't really feel very final or fitting, really. I think that you could have branched out a little and tried not to cram so much imagery into the limited space of the piece, but it's still very readable. Good work.

I'm actually reading a book about angels at the moment and it's almost like you wrote this on cue...the way you've balanced light and dark in this piece has left me breathless...you've obviously penned something that's resonated with a lot of people...masterpiece.

Death really is a mystery...
Biologically your organs slowly stop working.
It's gotta be painful. I love your use of words. And the format.

Thanks Barbara.
Death to me is a doorway and the taste of it would be nectar, ambrosia and moondrops with a hint of earthy flesh of Gnosis drawing us into oneness with the Divine.

Would be nice if it tasted of moondrops and ambrosia, thanks Maggie.
Very much a question a million people ask. Everyday, people die--a lot of them--and their families and friends, those left in our world, they're left to ponder where their loved ones go. This was one of the questions I heard my aunt ask after the passing of her father, my grandfather. It's a question that neither Science nor religion can answer until now. Maybe it will be your faith that will determine your destination, or maybe not. But one thing is for sure: there are some who stay on the surface of the earth. The answer, though? As you have suggested--no one knows.

Great poem, by the way.

Thanks for your thoughts here Cordelia.
Only because the title already tells the reader what the poem is about, I'd cut that first line--jump right into figuring out the answer. Thanks for sharing!
