Death's Backdoor

Death's Backdoor

A Poem by Frieda P
"

Dedicated to my dear friend RIP x

"
We hide away in safe little alcoves
hoping that no one will see
the shame imprinted in blood
   soul screaming out in affliction
heartbeats skip in shades of braille
washed away by tides of grief
tucked in lace hankies of apprehension
   inklings of grey conceptions leak
spun dry in the machine made by man
markings can't be erased in a cycle
for a legacy of lies, darkened by secrets
scars run deeper than earthy crust
dark moons passed over in the light
    truth obstructed at death's backdoor

I love this one. It is so tragically beautiful. The pain is seering. That place where we hide on the brink of madness to cover our shame from those we love...to call it deaths back door...very creative, and very true. It's almost as if death beckons to us in those moments of wekness. Those moments of human vulnerability. And this song that you've chosen is so haunting! I absoutely love it. It's going into my stock pile of writing music. Truly gave me goose bumps. Well done.

Running so deep in emotion and keeping it together takes some doing, but you have archived it and within the sadness of this piece there is an elegant beauty.

A amazing use of words. I had to read again. So many lines stood out. Death door is always close. We dance on the edge of life and death. Staying a few steps a head. One more second to feel alive and strong. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

Thanks Tai, this one is very personal...
This is a wonderful dedication poem for your lost friend and this song by Red is perfect for this.. so beautiful when combined together. Your images are haunting.. You are so right about secrets going to the grave.. perhaps that is where they belong.. the pain of your loss is deeply embedded in this poem. Well done dear.

Thank you Lori, not sure about those secrets, they're always a destructive force and somehow or anot.. read more
Meant to be read out loud, this had a rhythmic measured cadence that seemed to halt directly onto a crucial word. We take some secrets all the way with us till the end, is what I'll take with me. Very haunting piece Frieda, and very well constructed.
