Crushing Reminder

Crushing Reminder

A Poem by Frieda P

'Sitting, smoking, feeling high',
reminders of an old tune once a serenade
 pensive, remote,  distant
     thinking where to store emotions
              that make no sense
driving myself crazy,
crushing spirit with dark mulberry wine
moments of silence
a reigning shrill blast of insanity
playing sad songs to stir the pot,
sweetness turned bitter         'am I dreaming?'
broken records that skip a beat
                           strumming strands of sadness
not enough strength to stand or cry,
                   just breath enough to inhale
smoky scenarios lingering in my head
that exhale dusky ink remains of a posy

Your words make me think of the whole music biz, of how music is so fickle and fleeting, of how vulnerable musicians are, seldom knowing how they are doing .. and of how they trade in emotions. I am not sure I cld ever be like that because those emotions .. In a way songs are absolute nothings, yet they come to mean so much to us. Sometimes it is hard to live with them because they may upset us .. and even when we listen to them happily they remind us of our lost youth. Yet it is impossible to imagine life without them. You made me think and feel, not for the first time!

those memories that shadow our past and fill us with loss love and you have penned it well with a old 45 playing in the background

Thanks for the visit, I like that idea of an old 45 playing in the background...

I loved the simple yet stressful picture you picked for your poem
I actually remember doing some of this. Especially immersing myself in certain music when I was already miserable. This was a resonant, lonely piece. Well done.

Ha same recipe I see....
Dave Matthews band is amazing, and so is this poem.. wow what your mind can accomplish just by listening to something.. you can just unleash your emotions on paper and make us all feel every moment with you like we've been stuck in these caged cells for eternity.. you also place us with a key to set us free. Crazy how you make it all alright.

*smiling* You make my morning all alright with your gracious reviews my friend.
Why is it that our minds go where our spirits will be the saddest? Unresolved issues? Regret? Masochist? Wishing for a do over? When mind does this to spirit, all one can do is put pen to paper in an attempt to release the emotions. You've done an excellent job of that!

Thanks Barbara, yes releasing those demons can prove cathartic at times.
I know there are certain things that I don't do or songs I don't listen too cause they remind me of my ex-wife...
another emotionally well written piece.

I must be a masochist so, I do still love some of the music, can't let it go...thanks Dale.
a roll of desolation, one behind the ear, one defying gravity hanging by air ,accentuating a glaze of anticipation across your lips, a haze, a chamois beaded triangle, dual points free all there own, lust lungs burn crush me .... beat back the bellow of want... Beat back the need crush ...me.....

Dark and melancholy but as always so well penned in metaphors of hurt and black wine.

Kinda yep...thanks Mark.
There are those moments when we are revisited by random feelings that make no sense and yet we live by the moment to satisfy what we feel or what feels good at that very moment, not willing to think of how it will affect us in the future or what it has lead to in the past. There is a nostalgic sadness on this write that made me think.

Try not to ignore those feelings otherwise they just loom larger for me, thanks Maryanne.
