Crushing Reminder

Crushing Reminder

A Poem by Frieda P

'Sitting, smoking, feeling high',
reminders of an old tune once a serenade
 pensive, remote,  distant
     thinking where to store emotions
              that make no sense
driving myself crazy,
crushing spirit with dark mulberry wine
moments of silence
a reigning shrill blast of insanity
playing sad songs to stir the pot,
sweetness turned bitter         'am I dreaming?'
broken records that skip a beat
                           strumming strands of sadness
not enough strength to stand or cry,
                   just breath enough to inhale
smoky scenarios lingering in my head
that exhale dusky ink remains of a posy

Your words make me think of the whole music biz, of how music is so fickle and fleeting, of how vulnerable musicians are, seldom knowing how they are doing .. and of how they trade in emotions. I am not sure I cld ever be like that because those emotions .. In a way songs are absolute nothings, yet they come to mean so much to us. Sometimes it is hard to live with them because they may upset us .. and even when we listen to them happily they remind us of our lost youth. Yet it is impossible to imagine life without them. You made me think and feel, not for the first time!

Thanks carol.
I like the piece it does what it was meant too. But I especially appreciate the form that its written in. I feel like it adds a certain mystique to the words.

So glad you enjoyed it, thank you.
Very nice Frieda, that last line, 'dusky ink remains of posy' says so much. I also liked the 'sweetness turned bitter' reference of serenades on vinyl skipping. You have such a way with words. 'Just breathe'

Lol will do.... ;-)
Beautiful imagery! My gosh! It makes me think of the things that I wonder about late at night when the world is quiet and there is nothing to do BUT think. It gives me the feeling of being high and the visuals just make your words dance. A very hauntingly beautiful piece. Well done!

Much appreciate your thoughts here, thrilled you liked it.
The sadness in this piece is sensational. It almost seems inappropriate to say that, but it's true. It's so acute, so aptly stated - crushing - that it breaks the heart. Excellent write up. This is one of my favorites that I've read in a while.

Thank you R&B
A bit like a coatstand, we hang our melancholy on music and poetry to create something melodic and beautiful to at least cloak the hurt. You do it so well, sweetness. P.

Interesting khalid, sweet & sour, glad you took it there.
such a sad, dark, but beautiful song this poem is...

you write emotion that just slaps us in the face and then rests in our heart.

Love this review jacob, thanks so much.
"Playing sad songs to stir the pot..." Why do we torture our own soul with song and memory? I can feel sorrow and regret coming from the page. Great write, Frieda.
