"I can hardly walk a straight line
there is no cure or rehab for this kind of intoxication,
no release from enticement of paper, pen, quill nor
words distinctive invitation"
This is so true & it's something that I believe only writers can truly understand. I always carry a small notepad w/ me because sometimes a coworker says something silly that I know I can fit into a piece I'm writing, though I do take a little creative license:) This was wonderful, Frieda. Thank you for sharing.

So true. I know that I dance on these same shores and swim in these same oceans. Recently I was out of town without my laptop, and not even my notebook (carelessly forgotten) and I had so many words and verses running through my head it was a wonder I managed to stand upright for three days. The only thing I could do to satiate my intoxication was use my phone to browse the internet and "read" the poetry that I so longed to write. Well done, my friend!

this is an incredible write...and i for one totally relate..because when i get into that zone of writing...and it is usually in spurts...it is like torrid affair which leaves me quite spent, and sometimes wanting a cigarette afterwards (if only i still smoked )
but yes, there is that certain release that feels similar...the muse is certainly a lover.
love this.

We love words and there is no escaping them. We embrace them and breathe a sigh of satisfaction when they dance upon the page. I took a wonderful walk in your poem this evening.
Oh my, that is what words do or should. I immediately think of Pablo Neruda and how his words reach places no gentleman's should, but, they do and so beautifully.
Methinks your own words will move another to blissful thoughts, that between you there'll be ripples as far as the eyes can see; that 'I can harly walk a straight line' will be a kind of mantra by which you live. Why not!

Perfect description of what poetry does to us. All the things words do to us....the feelings they incite. The journeys they take us on. Of course this could also apply to a lover as well. This poem is intoxicating in its form and flow. I feel quite drunk now.. lol..;-p

Yes...they can be very much one and the same! Lol... ;-)
Great adjectives here! It's not often you meet someone who can play you like a violin, making you hit notes you didn't think you had! Great poem on the subject.
If you want to know me, read my poetry, it's all in there. I am a mother of three sons (my finest moments) a sister, a survivor and a little bit crazy. I lost my beloved sister to suicide, so you'll.. more..
