~Is That All There Is?

~Is That All There Is?

A Poem by Frieda P

If happiness is a warm gun,
            where's my ammunition
you were locked and loaded
before I had a chance to breathe
shot me through the heart,
               then right between the eyes
the music was blaring,
       the dance all a frenzy
my pulse was rocking to your beat
next thing I knew
you swept me off my feet
you changed your tune
          faster than the steps
listening to old sad songs now
          whilst the needle skips
stuck in that groove of
~ is that all there is?

Ahhhh....is that all there is?? Sometimes my wonderful friend I'm afraid so. You're left with that lingering residue of dissatisfaction. But there's always more music and if you dare another dance to be had. Next time frisk them good first for any weapons. Ha!! ;-)

Wide open, hopefully they remain in that position, thanks Holly!
Though it seems a little strained to begin with, you complete the end gracious as a musician adding last touches to his symphony. Just the thought of the lullaby makes me woozy, and "is that all there is" poetry (which I call because of their often pitfall endings) always entices me, to see where your mind goes before falling off the brink.

Thanks for your honest critique Tai, glad you came around at the end.
Good song lyrics.
Great poem.
Did you try and put a penny or a nickle on the needle? Sometimes it got the record to stop sticking. Sadly, it never changed the lyrics.

*sound*, I type too fast for my own good!
You set a wonderful scene here Fp, a frenzy of emotions taken to the dizzy heights of ecstasy. A build up of lust filled desires about to combust....and....and... and then
..... nothing... how frustrating.. lol!

Another fab one from the great lady herself... :O)

This was a great piece, I love how you left off on a question. Sometimes that is all there is, you're left wondering or waiting or whatever. Sometimes you can be unsatisfied.

"If happiness is a warm gun,
where's my ammunition"

I loved these lines, you hooked me from the moment I started reading, I love how you worded it, it was great. The song is very fitting, it's a great song too.

Nice job Frieda.

Welcome.
So relevant, meaningful and universally applicable. But it occurred to me as I read this, that once the right person comes along, the question "Is that all there is" need not ever be asked.....

Terrific write!

If one should be so lucky I guess so, there always those other than love though, thanks rubie.
This is great Freida! It tells a story that is universal. Many people can identify. i love the way you used the music analogy.

So happy you enjoyed it Barbara.
"where's my ammunition

you were locked and loaded

before I had a chance to breathe

shot me through the heart,

then right between the eyes."
The question that you asked in the beginning of the poem is so relevant to all of us and then you answered it marvelously with your own unique argument as if you are talking to your inner self or heaven of sorts. This is a deep write , a debate fo the meaning of happiness and the way to achieve. Is immature happiness that at all if we don't have all the info and all the right ingredients.
I think people on this site need to stop looking at your writes as a surface of an ocean without going to swim into your ocean of thoughts. Some will drown for lack of understanding and some will regain so much energy and enthusiasm after reading them...
Pen on and keep that light on the hill...:)
