Frozen Wedding Cake

Frozen Wedding Cake

A Poem by Frieda P

We tripped over that fine line,
     fell from gracious love
           to stark indifference
my shoes from another life,
    couldn't take it in stride
all the words turned upside down
   feelings of kind regard expired

playing games with new rules
   no stop signs in sight
do not pass go,
collect as much as you can

 perfect wedding cake
never even had a chance to thaw
drunk on toasts of cruel resentment

we said no matter what,
       "always remain friends"
pop goes the weasel
             and  f*****g fairy tales
pay with blood signed
 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _on the dotted line

Marriage takes hard work which directly conflicts with the romantic ideal we've been sold by fairy tales. You're right it doesnt take much to go from gracious love to stark indifference especially when people don't put in the effort. Then comes the inevitable resentment! Your way with words always amazes me and i cant think of one single thing that would make this poem more striking. *clapping wildly* :-D

I recently just went through a divorce, and it seemed to go something like this. Thank you for putting feelings that are sometimes hard to comprehend in themselves, into some beautiful words!

Hmmm... I know this alllllllllll too well.

Perfectly put. Stark indifference. Best friends to worst enemies.

And we do pay with blood, don't we?

Thanks Thomas, blood & pain does seem to be the common denominator in the aftermath of love...
i know nothing about married life. but sometimes i wonder how come two people are so perfectly well before marriage and end up sort ofdistressed or miserable after marriage. a very interesting and well-executed piece, frieda.

Yeah it really sucks how marriage isn't all that it's cut out to be. Of course, I wouldn't know what I'm talking about so I don't wanna sound like I think I do :P The last stanza was the best part! Couldn't have found a better way to put it myself
