Marriage takes hard work which directly conflicts with the romantic ideal we've been sold by fairy tales. You're right it doesnt take much to go from gracious love to stark indifference especially when people don't put in the effort. Then comes the inevitable resentment! Your way with words always amazes me and i cant think of one single thing that would make this poem more striking. *clapping wildly* :-D

I recently just went through a divorce, and it seemed to go something like this. Thank you for putting feelings that are sometimes hard to comprehend in themselves, into some beautiful words!

"someone left the cake out in the rain, I don't think that i can take it, cause it took so long to bake it"
sometimes we invest so much of our life and energy into a relationship...and then the icing melts and what's underneath isn't worth eating.
good poem but yes, the content leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Thanks Thomas, blood & pain does seem to be the common denominator in the aftermath of love...
i know nothing about married life. but sometimes i wonder how come two people are so perfectly well before marriage and end up sort ofdistressed or miserable after marriage. a very interesting and well-executed piece, frieda.

I think it does all come down to 'unconditional'...we put our best foot forward in the beginning, then as time moves on, we show our pink underbelly which isn't always pretty, now you're dealing with more than love, you're dealing with individual's psyche. Ha, I'm blabbering here, what I meant to say was thanks for your thoughts gabrielle.
Yeah it really sucks how marriage isn't all that it's cut out to be. Of course, I wouldn't know what I'm talking about so I don't wanna sound like I think I do :P The last stanza was the best part! Couldn't have found a better way to put it myself
