Frozen Wedding Cake

Frozen Wedding Cake

A Poem by Frieda P

We tripped over that fine line,
     fell from gracious love
           to stark indifference
my shoes from another life,
    couldn't take it in stride
all the words turned upside down
   feelings of kind regard expired

playing games with new rules
   no stop signs in sight
do not pass go,
collect as much as you can

 perfect wedding cake
never even had a chance to thaw
drunk on toasts of cruel resentment

we said no matter what,
       "always remain friends"
pop goes the weasel
             and  f*****g fairy tales
pay with blood signed
 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _on the dotted line

Marriage takes hard work which directly conflicts with the romantic ideal we've been sold by fairy tales. You're right it doesnt take much to go from gracious love to stark indifference especially when people don't put in the effort. Then comes the inevitable resentment! Your way with words always amazes me and i cant think of one single thing that would make this poem more striking. *clapping wildly* :-D

This certainly gives a disturbing insight into how rapidly and easily a marriage can collapse and die. Very well written and impressively presented. Well done!

I don't have anything against marriage. It is still a very fine institution and a blending of two lives. It isn't easy... but still doable.
It's the divorce that's the pain. And all the crap leading up to it and the fallout afterward.
But, you penned this very true and sadly, accurate. Let's see, the top layer comes out on the first anniversary in celebration, right? (Hate those dotted lines.)

hahaha, it's dangerous, everyone should do it once!
Whoa vitriol at its stark Frieda best! Flowing tripping slaps of words. Reminds me of a joke called 'Cut the Cake', too rude to post here though! lol

Jazzing on this review John... Ha, I'd love to hear that one!
Sadly, This is a road many of us have found ourselves on in our journey through life.
For me it was actually Pearl Jams "Betterman" that woke me up and made me realize I didn't want to be the woman in that song anymore.

Great job not only conceptualizing, but truly conveying the feelings of hurt, disappointment and anger here.

Marriage is not for the faint of heart, I am sure. It's funny, you always see the prince and princess kiss and ride off into the sunset, but you never see them six months down the road when she is trying to tend house, he's irritable, they don't know how to communicate, etc. I agree with "Red"--marriage, in a lot of ways, seems to contradict the very romantic ideal. Still, it's something I would happily endure for the right person. Well written!

I absolutely love this
what a forgotten wedding achievement left in a freezer never to thaw until it hits the can upon loves final clean out
yes it holds so much that cake-dream wishes can turn to resentment quickly
disney has fairy tales -but no cakes in the freezer just cash in a drawer
and f**k that weasel to
thank you for sharing
