Time Makes Love Pass

Time Makes Love Pass

A Poem by Frieda P
"

Broken promises...

"
Time weary, blurred heaviness of dark denial
like breathing in heavy stench of stale cigarette smoke
exhaling the songs of lost love and no forever after
stuck in a breached tug of war, fight or flight
broken promises unravel fated defeats approach
how cruel life, to take us from a place of ultimate bliss
to be plunged at the chasm of mundane and prosaic
point of no return and syndrome of slippery ledges
death's  breathing no guarantees of reverence
falling into the abyss of impertinence and technicalities
days drag like slow motion's madness in reverse
conversations in the head, that never touch the lips
pressures of neglect, repetitious nights of no silver linings
where light once shone in the cracks and on the face
now we drown, we sink...sleeping with eyes open
dark shadows appear to caste  on this sad house
past life's enchantment but a memory in photo books
finalizing dissolution contracts til death do us part
foundations once solid give way to legalities pen
time makes love pass seemingly in a sigh of minutes

Wow, this is so deep and emotional. Some amazing powerful lines and the whole poem itself is very well written. I can feel the trust an betrayal in it.

Reviews

we call it love, but it's not (and wasn't) love...it's Nature's call to duty (with a little reward thrown in, like nectar for the honey bee)..."love does not alter when it alteration finds" (Shakespeare)...but that 'alteration' makes for much poetry, and lots of cowboy songs, and all that way-back-in-the-ally blues...good mourning, Frieda

So true right? Thanks Corset.
Your poem is all in the last line. With love, time changes, doesn`t it? It seems to fly. When love is gone time moves at a much slower pace - much like the rest of the poem. A sad eloquent stream of melocholia . P.

Exactly right Pete...time changes love whilst love changes time, you just can't win, can you? ;-)
I do believe time is the culprit. Over time, people change and some relationships where once there was compatibility can no longer function. Others may flourish under the changes and the love grow deeper. It is a matter of perception perhaps. Has the partner changed for the worse? Have their changes come in conflict with your own? Or is it simply that changes in you now notice things that may have been there from the beginning, but overlooked?
Forever is a lovely word. But for two people who have become strangers to one another and are trapped in it, it is a fancy euphemism for hell.

This is quite a deep and thought provoking piece. Very well done.

A relationship built on high expectation will always fail, because it's so hard to live up to the unrealistic. Great work!

Ah but we always have expectations going into love, that's why they say 'love is blind'...thanks A.H.. read more
This is great...it brings to light many things, of life, of love, of desperation and fear. The wide eyed openess of a child cowering the corner asking why. Very powerful and insightful, deep and reverent, slightly tilted in every direction with only one end in sight. Very nice Frieda.

I love your insightful review Jack...thanks for your thoughts here.
Wow... this speaks to the sad dissolution of marriage perfectly. All the pain, rending bitterness, legal hoop jumping and inevitable grief are present here. It takes little effort to bind your lives but a mind numbing battle to cut the tie. Hopefully the couple come out on the other side with the knowledge to prevent another divorce if they ever dare to try again. Fantastic write Frieda!!
