Just Dead

Just Dead

A Poem by Frieda P

Somewhere in my soul,
 you still reside
you pass through
 in dark of night
a light tingle,
 shiver up the spine
glimpse out the side of my view
i catch a glimmer of you
can't tell if you're smiling or blue
blurry molten grey
 still mists the eye
i feel you in my bones,
   my heart overflows crimson
are you haunting allusion
or just a delusion...
  do you waft on zephyrs
           like a fluttering butterfly
          or are you just dead?

Someone who was very special to me was murdered in September 2011. When I read this it brought him to mind. His sister has told me that she has "seen" him on many occasions over the years.. very much as you describe like seeing something out of the corner of your eye. I think I will share this read with her...

This has a haunting quality about it. The death of a loved one is final but there are always feelings that come to those who still mourn. It comes from the hope that those who have passed on are still listening and watching somehow. In my own humble opinion, I think they are.

Oh darn.... You got me... Was worth a try! -.-
it's like seeing a ghost...we shake our head, blink our eyes and look again...wondering if the apparition is still there.

this is doing the same thing...but in the mind, with a loved one we have lost...

nice write.

Thinking of you, Sweets! I understand where it is coming from and the haunting, lingering of all that's lost. We often say, "may the memories bring you peace." However, sometimes the depth of someone within us is so great that we feel their presence, an ache from the hole created, and their nearness at the strangest times that it haunts. Hugs, Frieda!

I catch "a" glimmer of you. Which eye? the left or the right? If he or she is dead, then I'm pretty sure he or she wouldn't be able to response to your queries. Good one. Introspective, cathartic. Awesome.

You know Frieda...I was just thinking up a poem on these lines, but this is so good that it has put paid to that for now. That's because you said everything so well here that I feel vindicated and fresh and no longer feel any urge to say anymore on this issue.

do you waft on zephyrs

Some memories are dead but can be rebirth with a whisper or a thought. I like the description and the question at the end. Few close door are forever forgotten. Just lock away in a safe place we hope. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

Very true Coyote, nice way to put it, thanks.
Nice. Is this one about a break-up, or a literal death of a loved one?

Oh, excellent! Love the end because to me, despite what you say in the rest of the poem, it has a ring of, I don't care finality to it, like all the things that you feel are just an echo. They can't really touch you. Loved..."my heart overflows crimson".
