I Watch You Cry

I Watch You Cry

A Poem by Frieda P
"

The pain of watching my son go through the painful trials & tribulations of a Divorce prompted this write...

"
Is there a greater pain
 than watching your child cry?
no matter what age
it tugs at the heart strings
a scraped knee, a football injury,
 a dying relationship
each band-aid of love
 holds a special significance
i watched you grow
 from a wild-eyed perfect child
with an extreme sport mentality,
always on the edge
so many runs to emergency
 to make a parent worry
close calls after the pained upset,
we nearly lost you after one
a broken heart has taken you down
like no other injury could
a bitter wound that can't be fixed
 with kisses or learned skill
I've watched you grow into a man,
it's hard to watch you break
For there's no greater love
than a mother for her son

I'm glad you found me, because in turn I have found you. This made my blood run cold. I have published very little on here, most of my work goes on Booksie.com where I have already established some strong connections due to my writing on my own abused childhood. I also struggle daily watching my own 25 year old son waste his once gilded life away. You are the first writer I have found to touch on this subject. Rightly or wrongly I wrote one on my son's attempted suicide and his sister's response. If I find there is any interest on Writers Cafe, no doubt I will add them. Thanks again.

After going through a divorce and knowing the devastation, this went straight to my heart and soul. I could never imagine having to watch my own son go through the same thing. Your a beautiful and loving Mother and this shows that clearly...xo

Watching your child try and mend a broken heart cant be easy.. My mom has too watch it happen with all three of us girls, Daughters or Sons watching them mend a broken heart is not easy.. But your son is lucky to have such a loving mother in his life to help him get though the pain.. To hold him no matter what age thats all us kids really look for is lots of hugs.. You have made your words come to life and this is beautiful and i could fee
l the pain that yourself and your son is feeling.. This is a heart felt write coming out of a real life situation.. Sad but still beautiful just like the woman who wrote these words.. I am proud to call you a dear friend

I do not have kids so I can only imagine what it must be like... I know that I have trouble seeing anyone in pain but children hurting really break my heart. I really agree with your last lines.

I cannot argue with that, mine has been gone six years and I still feel her love.

Oppps, sorry bout that. xo
You know this poem has got me thinking about my mom who I very much wanted to be by my side always. The sadness and anxiety of a mother worrying over her child are simply the best acts of love that should be considered heroic and appreciated by most people. There may be times that we get into fights but the love can already be observed by just knowing that she will do anything to see her child do the right thing and avoid regrets afterwards. Although I'm not a mom, I can really feel the impact of this poem brought to me. It's really great to know that you have written such an amazing piece of poetry about yourself as a mom. I really love it!

Thanks so much for your heartfelt reply Margarette, much appreciated....!
You have to let children make their own decisions and mistakes ...and be there to listen.

This is so true, it still doesn't alleviate the pain.

nothing alleviates the pain... but its what we have to do anyway...
Very true reality here for I really relate here for if i could take the pain from my children and endure it myself i would. As i know now how my parents felt seeing me down at times you have captured the whole reality of a mother or father's love for their child going through the worry and pain with one's child as always keep writing fellow writer.

And you know this haha.
Your poem shares the emotions of a wise mother. We can never make it all better... We can only love and sometimes just from a distance. I enjoyed the flow of this write and the continuity of the poem. It almost read as smoothly as a rhymed poem to me.
Well penned today Frieda.

Thanks BR.
This piece was drenched in truth. I have two daughters. I sat with them through childhood illness, creid with each broken heart and watched them grow, little by little before my eyes until I realized that just yesterday was where each of my memories sat. Very nice one Frieda.
