Me & A Bird on a Wire

Me & A Bird on a Wire

A Poem by Frieda P

me and a bird on a wire
squaring it away
song birds stuck
on the lime without a life

fighting for freedom
                       with plumed feathers
crying for dark doors to open
                           so the nightingale can sing

'not ask for much' I screech,
what about breathe to be seen
reality sweats the behavior
only to be a fairy tale

I sacrifice my own dignity
                   for others orbit of expanse
i meditate high on the balance
                for fear of mutilation

boundaries close the sky
to a mortar of cloud's formation
amends never tasted so bitter
 as the acrid promise

I am alone perched
and I contain so many others
my footing has braced
a thousand sad sails and smiles

helpless I flutter desperately
for the cage is in the distance

the release still a fall from grace,

 the distance weeping
for struggling echo's which

                                       embrace a sublime sad song

How did you know that on this rainy day this is exactly how I feel. The tightness in my chest and inability of my legs to move all signs of talons grasping the wire for dear life. A bird that has lost its song for trying to sing too many songs. You write what stirs in my soul...

uncaged but still fluttering, eh frieda? do you fear being tied to that guilded cage again, or never knowing its confines and lack of extremes once more? i wonder....this is truly one of your most poignant writes...and quite full of riddles and enigmatic answers. provocative piece!

Depends on the day or the hour, but right this moment I'm living in the sunshine of your review. ;-).. read more
This is an incredibly riveting piece in the sense that it was inspired by the song, yet it has a life all its own...are you fluttering away from the cage or towards it? Something tells you not to ask so much, something else says why not ask for a little more? The hardest thing in the word to do is sacrifice your own happiness for the betterment of others...it's take strength and willpower to be a "good" person in today's world...I'm not sure if I"m on the mark, but self-conflict is the predominant theme I take from this piece...an achingly beautiful piece of introspection.
