Me & A Bird on a Wire

Me & A Bird on a Wire

A Poem by Frieda P

me and a bird on a wire
squaring it away
song birds stuck
on the lime without a life

fighting for freedom
                       with plumed feathers
crying for dark doors to open
                           so the nightingale can sing

'not ask for much' I screech,
what about breathe to be seen
reality sweats the behavior
only to be a fairy tale

I sacrifice my own dignity
                   for others orbit of expanse
i meditate high on the balance
                for fear of mutilation

boundaries close the sky
to a mortar of cloud's formation
amends never tasted so bitter
 as the acrid promise

I am alone perched
and I contain so many others
my footing has braced
a thousand sad sails and smiles

helpless I flutter desperately
for the cage is in the distance

the release still a fall from grace,

 the distance weeping
for struggling echo's which

                                       embrace a sublime sad song

How did you know that on this rainy day this is exactly how I feel. The tightness in my chest and inability of my legs to move all signs of talons grasping the wire for dear life. A bird that has lost its song for trying to sing too many songs. You write what stirs in my soul...

Suspended above all else, allowing others to make their way home again. So beautiful once again my sweet friend.

I am alone perched
and I contain so many others
my footing has braced
a thousand sad sails and smiles

Flight, song, cage - all part of each of us on our Life's journey. The line that made me feel the most in this one:
I sacrifice my own dignity
for others orbit of expanse
How often do we sacrifice so others can fly farther? Kudos on a beautiful poem!

your welcome
"I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself", a line from a movie that I love...
Other than that, I see this poor creature struggling to just be... Not even sure why, but hanging on.
A very nice visulization of the struggle to create while not destroying the self.

Ha GI Jane! thanks David, nice to have you back...
A very good song. Cohan is my favorite. I saw him in concert in 1978-1979. I like the poem. I like the use the use of freedom and the bird to make your point. Hard to dance where no-one want to move.

Thank you for the excellent poem.

I think we all can relate to the conflict of inner turmoil from time to time. I know personally how it feels to feel like I am having to often sacrifice my own happiness, wants and dreams for the sake of someone else's needs and happiness. You can only sit on that wire for so long.....you either have to learn to have the determination to take flight, or resign yourself to spending life in the cage.

Please never shut up...that'd ruin it for everyone! ;-)
I am the largest (not talking about my girl a*s) fan of Leonard Cohen but...butt?? I only have ear phones with Draculaura and Frankie-Stein and...is that Ghoulia?? on them, so I will refrain from listening to this song...one more GD time ;-) He almost looks like Ian Dury (RIP) in his coat and hat ;-)

Did you write a poem? Like a drunk in a midnight choir...I have zero clue.
