Poetic Retraction

Poetic Retraction

A Poem by Frieda P

Shall I take back all my poetic injustice
does it not fit in your realm of meter and tack
my rhythm seeks that of a different drummer
another lover of a different color perhaps
is it not presumptuous to say it has not merit
my madness grants me permission to steer
words convoluted and distortion, beware
when all is said and done, no one has won
words are words that affect one another
be they warm, or square, they sit and despair
what will people think of me, naked and abject
stir them in a pot of reality with wretched added
or add sweet kisses and adulation for all to see
cheap, vulgar, saccharin, or beguiling illusions
they're all the delusions of the poets alchemy

poetry means many different things to everyone. I have found for myself, that the only way to write is to write to express myself, and to hell with what anyone else thinks of it. There are enough restrictions, rules and constraints in real life...this is my imaginary world, and the only rules are of my own choosing, and the only one who needs pleasing is me. Poetry??? Make of it what you need and want it to be.

This has a Shakespearian flavour to it as it hides its hurt in a clever and cloying mix of poetic questions.

LOL!!
One of the greatest examples who doesn't really rely on poetic rules is T.S. Eliot

You could take it back, but the gesture would reak of insincerity. The world would not remember either way. When they do choose to remember it will be the "cheap, vulgar, caccharin, or beguiling illusions" of the false idol they dreated of your work.
A poets word and not "cheap", they are bought with pain, blood, and abuse, or shared from bliss beyond value.
Poets are not "vulgar '. The words are replicated from the transparnt vision of the very inner nature of humanity. The skin is just removed to show the "beguiling illusions" that everyone know is not reality.
I will give this a kiss, but it will not be sweet with adulation. No. Thsi kiss begs the thrust of passion and the bite of persistence.
Retract nothing!
Loved it.

I really liked this one. You are right about that. Writing shouldn't be about sticking to a certain meter or time or phrasing its about expressing emotions however it happens to come out,

O.O
Yes a poet swallows words for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Until all that survives is the poetry, the words are just the process.
