Angel of One Wing

Angel of One Wing

A Poem by Frieda P
"

A very dear friend of mine sent me that wonderful picture, which inspired this. As survivors, we've always called ourselves one winged angels. Enjoy.

"
Angel
 with the fractured wing
whispers
 on a zephyr's snowflake
catches
 the tears of sullen eyes
blowing kisses
 per messages of love
         bubble wraps
your heart for safe keeping
floats
on a periwinkle cotton candy pillow
no broken element
 can deny your potent power
                 like a candle flickering
in a strong gust of wind &
crashing roar of waves at high tides fury
the cries of great warrior's
           forging survival in battle
no wreckage
will snuff your courage nor strength
soaring ever so softly
to save the lives of myriad crush
carrying the other one winged angels
 with felicitous fortitude's
conviction
 onto billows of silk
for a safe place to gently fall

I found the assonance (sullen eyes, roar of waves) and alliteration (cotton candy, potent power) to be distracting. I'm not sure if you planned those things, but I prefer seeing them in a romantic or humorous poem. Maybe it's just me.

Because, this is much more than just sparks and fire. This is strong and straight-forward. "no wreckage will snuff your courage" is, for me, the lines that best animates the poem.

And I got here from the "heart over mind" contest, which asked to review a poem that's already entered in the contest. I thought it was a great, nimble idea. Hope you reviewed someone's poem too.

Good day. Keep writing.

Frieda I love the words you choose to use in your pieces. It gives it so much more impact and excellence. "bubble wraps your heart for safe keeping " AWWWWWW!
"floats you on a periwinkle cotton candy pillow" Awww x2 you express love through your poems making the reader feel it like he's feeling the emotion for the first time. Truly awesome. I got the message to stay strong and keep moving on for I may be human, I may be flawed but I am not weak and so i'll never give up. I am an angel with one wing or a devil with one horn. Maybe i'm just a boy with a huge. Good job Frieda. xoxo Kee.

A beautiful message of love and being there for each other. Come what may. We can pick up our broken pieces and go on if we have each other. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks John, means a lot coming from you. :-)
When one has only a single wing, the lack of the other wing gives cause for the angel with only one wing to be subjected to a period of testing which in the end causes a heightened sense of compassion, and ability to reach out to help those who are of like nature. When there is a coming together of such empathy the two become a powerful force of love which you speak of so eloquently. Their conviction indeed allows a safe place to gently fall onto billows of silk! They soar through the skies of pain and suffering to meet tranquility and victory!

Your write is beautiful and the image that inspired it delivers a message of hope!!
