this is so tough...i had a friend years ago who got raped...she would never report it...just lived with it afterwards...and i know it always haunts her...but sometimes trying to prosecute the one who did it puts the victim through more pain, guilt and scrutiny that she does not deserve.

in ways, the bad guy wins not matter what.

So true jacob, on the survivor site I'm on, you would not believe what the 'victims' are put through, the perpetrator has more rights...many times these rapes go unreported due to these horror stories. Thanks for the read...

I have a friend who stabbed their oppressor numerous times after it happened..good for them, I say

I try to offer love as best I can..I often fail badly at this, but hopefully enough successes to make some kind of difference

It's a sad state of affairs I know...too many victims, not enough justice. Did your friend have to pay for retaliation, that happens all too often too.

nah, wasn't even charged with anything, which is great..I think it would be cool to castrate a few of them and pour vinegar on their wounds or maybe just scald the genitals and hands with acid and cut a tattoo into their chest saying what they've done..I'd have to be certain they were guilty and I'm being hypothetical of course, as it's probably some kind of crime to say such a thing in any other manner, even if it isn't directed at a particular individual

my ex-gf was staying in someone's house for the weekend...so the lady who owns the house invites this creepy drifter over and gives him a key while she's sleeping over there..so I stayed over night with her and told her to lock the guy out in other ways..had I not been able to thwart the circumstances, I had in mind to kidnap him.

but alas, all's well that ends well

my recommendation is to let go of as much as you can, and just know there's people watching out for you that you are unaware of

and know that you're awesome, even though some people are just f*****g sick

sometimes that's the toughest part, just remembering your own awesomeness

I am a survivor but I hate that word. "Survivor" seems to imply we are better or ok.. That is so far from the truth.. We will never be the same, never be ok... At least that's how I feel. In March of 2010 my flashbacks returned after almost forty years.. I live daily with them and it feels like yesterday.. Thank you for this.. shallimarRose

I'm not too keen on the word either, but victim implies you've not moved on, which most haven't...that's where everyone gets stuck. Flashbacks are so common...sorry to hear you still suffer from these.

My friend Brittany(17) was raped and murdered by her stepfather. In court he said "My one wish is to bring Brittney back," he said. "I promised I would always be there to protect you.... Sorry will never be enough." If it had happened before I wish I had known so that I could have helped to stop it. This is a great poem and I live with that rule never turn a blind eye, if one of my friends was in a situation I would do everything to stop it even if it meant busting into their life.

Rape, especially of children upsets me in a big way. I have two female cousins who were sexually abused by their Mother and their step Father whilst their real Father slept downstairs on the sofa. Both were taken into care and adopted by two different families. They never see each other again. Neither of the abusers were sent to prison. I have a poem about it on here somewhere. Absolutely disgusting isn't it. One of the many injustices my family tried to cover up. Needless to say, one of the many injustices I exposed via my poetry. Nobody in my family have any contact, which in my opinion is a good thing really. I know of so many abused girls, it's sad.

Sadly, it is so much pain. Most times we do turn blind eyes. We can not bring our hearts and minds to face such a horrible crime. We struggle with just thinking about it. We struggle with just the word, let alone the act. And when it is someone we know, it is so hard to find it in ourselves to find a way to be of help. and most times when we try it is so inadequate. we think what can i do, what can i do. But I think all we can do is be there. Just be there and just hope that it is enough. hope that offering our shoulder will some how bring some relief of the suffering. Thank you for writing this. When I was young, only 17 I had a girl friend who had this happen to her by her step father. I don't think I ever really faced that pain. I am seeing right now and it is still so ugly. I don't know if I might have done something more, we were together for a while but eventually drifted apart. I don't know if she ever really got over this, my hope is she has, maybe I'll never know. I also have someone coming to me for help right now, so I think this is why I was brought to read this. thank you.

I'm on a survivor site also, and most people can't even say the 'Rape' word, let alone talk about it...it's all nasty business, as I'm sure it was for your friend, especially when it's someone you're supposed to trust....thanks for reading.
