hopeA Poem by freelancejouster
a year ago, a flash of light, a broken crash,
glass shattering, splintering, abrasive and gritty, underfoot, underpalm.
wisps of time, pass by in slow motion, casts and grafts, blood and morphine, splints and skin, combining to make me whole again.
a year ago today, they said i'd never walk, claimed i'd never smile, never think...
impossible they murmered quietly, to my family, my friends, while i lay behind closed doors, fighting the whole way.
now, they draped me in light blue, urged me on with their grins, and nudged me on to the stage, up to the mic.
and i'm the color of hope, in the spotlight.
